UUIDs exist for a reason, each machine has one. They are tied to the machine, not a network interface.

shamefully I had to use MAC back in the early 2000s because that’s all that was available. Tech has moved on since then, and so should devs

9 times out of 10.. when the address is added to the host file, and the user is still able to connect to that address in their browser.. it is because the address was added to the wrong host file. Initially, it was a text document that Windows would reference as the hosts file. But in an update, Windows copied the existing info from the text hosts file into a new hosts file in that same folder (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc).

There can be 3 files labeled "host" in there. There might be a text document, another is a calendar file, and then there is the actual host file to add new addresses to. Open the file with Notepad to edit it and/or confirm the address you are trying to block access to was there in the first place.

    Thanks for the tip.
I think I already have a virtual adapter (something called Hyper-V) coming with Windows (maybe used for the Sandbox function in Windows 10 Pro?).
However, it is connected to the real Adapter, that means whenever I disable my real network adapter, the Hyper-V virtual one will also be disabled.

The good thing are like what @tzzsmk mentioned : You can sort go offline without needing to disable your Network Card:
    - Netlimiter, NetDisabler (sordum.org), Firewall App Blocker FAB from sordum.org as well...
    or
    - Register your plugins to your Wifi adapter (if you have one), letting it enabled but not connected to any network.

Still I prefer being completely Offline when using my DAW. (you know why lol)

    Peace

Alright, thank you, I will also check this.

Now I always wanted to ask this question : What the hell should be added exactly in the host file to block a site completely :

    127.0.0.1 + the web address
    or
    0.0.0.0 + the web address?

and does the address have to include www. or what?

beside the entries added automatically by R2R patch, I remember I added several ones with different possibilities lol

    Thanks in advance

Without going through all previous posts, I suppose you have done the 'delete all the prefetch files' trick? Assuming Win 11 still use them?

    UPDATE:-

Yes it does and here's how to remove them manually, just in case:-

    https://www.ebugg-i.com/windows/windows-11-prefetch-folder/

And just in case you don't know, the first time you reboot, the boot process will take a little longer as windows rebuilds the folder with updated info.. after that its actually quicker than you have now.

What I mentioned is a mistake someone can make without noticing it right away. It's a separate topic.. unrelated to what you mentioned about what's possible with a VPN earlier.. which I saw already. It's another thing someone troubleshooting can check off their list. Real eager to correct someone?

In terms of hosts file? That's a yes from me. [IMG]

    In terms of

I see you're on Mac and also confusing the Computer library with the user home library (~) ~/Library.
Its what the ~ symbol indicates,

how ever it does not matter in this case, the demo mode on Macs still pops up after month., I tested this on a iMac with m1 running ventura., still. no solution like the PC users

solution is actually very simple - block network access to a DAW (or any other software) that loads these plugins

And their domain in your hosts file. also, you can block the plugins directly with your firewall. (some people use additional wave editor and forget it isn't blocked). If the firewall will also do subdirectories you could just do one entry for ~/Library/Application Support/Overloud/

I'm not sure with all, because i do not use them; but in Breverb2 if you go to preferences->authorizations, there is a button "manage authorizations". If you click that and the plugin is sufficiently blocked in, it will tell you it needs an internet connection (when you are already online). By default it is in the same directory as the Gem plugins. I always block the daw and editors in the Mac firewall, but then plugins with 3rd party firewall as part of installing them. so what if it takes an extra 30 seconds each.

Basically, do not connect a media production machine to the internet that has scene releases on it - FOR ANY REASON. In fact internet access given to any/all media production machines is a huge no-no. It never ceases to amaze even with the huge amount of these kinds of threads already posted here (all with more or less the same outcomes) that yet more threads like them get started almost every day.

All of my Overloud work on an M1 Ultra for over a year without issue.
You have to know what you're doing. Read and figure it out.

the solution to overloud, black rooster etc etc is to add them to your blocked hosts, this will eliminated any backdoor adverts etc etc

    In Terminal type;
    1. sudo nano /etc/hosts return, password
    2. Add your address on button of the list (example 127.0.0.1 www.annoying adverts.com )
    3. Control O (not zero) to save
    4. Return button
    5. Control x to exit
    6. sudo nano /etc/hosts to check again with return and password
