Hi, I'm looking for a laptop to work in Nuendo. Min. 16gbRAM(better 32), 1T storage and 15"-16" display. If I look at the CPU parameters, the 12700H seems good to me. But essential for working with sound are quiet fans, which I can't find anywhere. Can you please advise me of a suitable and above all quiet laptop? Do you have experience with Dell 7620 16 plus - Inspiron?

But this performance will not be sufficient for working with Nuendo. I need a powerful machine, I don't think that is possible without a fan. I don't need a silent laptop, but quiet enough :)

The quietest and most powerful laptop is - Mac Pro.
Sometimes I forget to turn it off, because I do not hear it.

Interesting how Apple silicon is on that list.
There is also 12th gen i7 on that list.
If you go with fans, the difference in how loud they are in new laptops of quality does not vary significantly.

Yes, that's what I'm finding out too, and I'm afraid I'll be left with nothing but conversion. But I don't want to do it at all, I'm a lifelong Windows user and I would have to redo the entire workflow... so I'd rather find a suitable PC :)

It can be, certainly not all laptops with the same CPU are equally loud. Each model of laptops has a slightly different cooling design.... would like to get some user experience here with a sufficiently powerful and quiet laptop

In the end, if you really need something totally silent, you won't have much choice but to choose a desktop pc instead (which should also be more powerful than a laptop BTW).

Like I said, I'm not looking for an absolutely silent laptop, but the quietest one with enough performance that's on the market...

So I borrowed a Mackbook with an M1 and compared it with an average (rather slightly below average) PC laptop. And a very big miracle about the M1 does not happen. I tested in Nuendo. The Macbook played high definition video where the PC couldn't (but the PC has a low-cost onboard graphics card). In terms of performance, the M1 handles slightly more tracks and plugins compared to the CPU 11390H, but really minimally. The main difference (good for audio post) is absolute silence from the fan on the MAC side.
But I can't say that I would fundamentally lean to one side of the comparison. MAC more expensive but quiet.

If you want your laptop to be quiet, don't go for the intel processors. They draw too much power and get too warm. You are better off with M1 or Ryzen.

A fanless laptop would also be possible, but I would be careful here. The heat dissipation must be really well designed, otherwise you will have to deal with thermal-throttling later.

i7-12700H has peak power of 115W, good luck finding a laptop with cooling and power delivery capable of handling that,
forget about silence right away if you want non-crippled performance from that chip
    :hahaha:

then it's a MacBook Air which has no fans, and it's up to you whether its performance is good enough for your needs

Every windows pc / laptop user, should have this app installed....https://getfancontrol.com/
Its free on github, so powerful and works with any setup. You have control over all your fans, even the GPU fans. You can manipulate all your fans, control your cpu cooling etc. Your pc can get so quiet its scary....well ---- do as you wilt

very good are the zBook models from HP
    they come in 3(*4) varieties

    ultrabook = Firefly
near ultrabook = Studio(*Power) (most stuff soldered only Main memory expandable)
    Workstation = Fury (everything expandable/exchangeable)
    .Thicker with vaporchamber cooling

the Studio you should have a closer look into
    recommend 11gen intel or up

if they would come with the new Ryzen 4 models
    they would rule.

Next up are the Asus Zenbook Pro
the double display ones are very good and the new OLEDs might work well too

    not tested it personalty but
    the Pro ART
Models from Asus and Acer have a good reputation

Again the new Ryzen Models are a Apple competitor
    they are super efficient
the Zenbook Pro model with the dial seems like a true winner
another interesting bit is the onboard grafix with the new ryzen
depending on use case you might skip a dedicated chip

that is of course just IMO

I was thinking about a cooling dock station for laptops a few days ago. This could be at least half-remedy for the problem. Hmm…
