It is because there are differences in between filters. Sound- and featurewise. Beside the classic filter types (HP, LP, BP, ...) they react differently, resonance behaves in different ways, etc. Also filters often can be somehow modulated as you said. Some has an ADSR envelope section. Some can be modulated by a LFO. Actually you answered your own question stating filters as being basic, because it is a rather basic tool in the world of sound. It is easily comprehensible that so many people are obsessed about such an important and powerful tool in my opinion.

 

I'm very enjoyed about Synapse Audio The Legend (I'm using it since August 2021), but I love u-he Diva too!

By chance, Diva was sold as -50% promo recently (until January 10th, 2023) via... Native Instruments. Have bought it, of course, I don't regret it. Now I'm using both in mine productions and live performances!

For Moog Mini emulation, my favorite remains The Legend. Diva is more versatile, due to numerous "emulated" hardwares & circuits.

Loving also Native Instruments Monark.

Seen in the comments (2 years ago though):

Compared to those, or (esp) Synapse Teh Legend, DIVA can certainly take up 95% of its cycles w/ antipiracy checks, while sounding far worse / less accurate. DIVA of all trades, mastURS of bation.

Filters usually saturate as well (analog emulations, that is). Saturation inside a filter (usually pre-filter and due to the fact is level-dependent) lets you play for example soft clean notes and max velocity, harder, fuller notes. Having a velocity-dependent sturator, velocity dependent filter envelope and velocity-dependent amp envelope allows for a greater range of expressivity. This is harder to achieve with saturation/filtering after the synth.

So yeah, you won't feel too much difference when you play a test note, but you will definitely hear a difference when actually playing a just slighlty expressive melody - you have more variation, more human feel

 

LEGEND is great too !

 

no fun intended, compare it what you can do with Avenger...OK with Diva you have that Feedback stuff cool, but with Avenger I can throw in a feedback sample and go far beyond that ... or multisample diva load it into avenger and go even further. Compare the fx section if diva with avenger...
