But otherwise, I use the CLA from Waves

 

I always find myself just reachin' for a T-RackS Black 76 or a WAVES CLA-76. I need to get on that Black Rooster and NI 1176 bandwagon.

Overloud compressors have been keepers for me lately, great sound, very low cpu, has 3 revisions, oversampling, mid-side, and the best part is built-in parallel comps.

The G-comp is my go to bus compressor now for its low cpu usage.

 

I'll happily admit I'm not very knowledgeable on 76 compressors, but I remember reading it had different architecture than the 78 (something about transistors and op amps), thus different response curves.

As much as i hate UAD, that 1176 suite is hard to top.

 

yeah that makes sense, since UREI are making the compressors get more cleaner everytime a new revision/version came out. It's like they were "improving" the circuit in a way. That's what people do back in the days, little that they know we are here today for all the dirt. About the response curve, technically all the 1176 revision has different curves and response, 1178 should be no different.

Native Instruments VC-76 is an exact copy of Softube FET Compressor and yet people find them different

 

Lately I did my 1176 shootout.. (Waves, Arturia, etc.) well, I don't like subscriptions, but for my ears UAD beats all other software solutions.

how is that clickbait? it says poll of your favorite (insert subject)- it's like as clear as can be what you're clicking on. people's biased opinions on 1176s. I keep seeing bias used (not by you just in general) like it's inherently bad, but it isn't. not taking into account yours or someone's else bias is bad, but bias is just being human.

one of my favorite examples, I used to sell booze. Riesling from Alsace is known to have a "petrol" nose. now to some that might give them memories of their house being burnt down as a kid, to others it might remind them of fishing on grandpa's boat. neither are WRONG, it's just pyschological differences. and that applies imo just as much in music, or it "should" anyway because music is about conveying emotion. if you ENJOY a plugin more than another even if objectively it's not "better" then isn't that a significant factor? it's the other side of the coin that is gear aquistion syndrome, imo like its dumb to think you need a bunch of stuff you don't in order to "be good" but it's also dumb to not get toys and gizmos that spark some creativity.

Generally I just use the Logic stock Studio and Vintage FET 1176 style compressor circuits. But I really like the Black Rooster VLA (and the others in the Mac bundle!) also. Was it one of the plugins coded for them, by the guy behind Fuse Audio Labs? Reimund Dratwa is his name.
Anyway, it is excellent on drums and has a bit of flavor to it.

 

Kush doesn't make emulations of other plugins, Novatron has FET attack and release times but that's pretty much it.

Edit : To be clear Novatron has FET, VCA and Mu attack/release options, and everything in between.
