    But you don't have to listen to these trolls, PT is and always remains the point of reference for professionals. It doesn't matter what the rookies think.

    Just image if avid users of this DAW were charged a more nominal fee which is competitive with other professional DAWs that millions around the world use and would be within zillions of more less affluent musicians and studios, would it still be the point of reference for the professional class.

    This Pro Tools rip reminds me of a bit that Steve Martin performed many years ago and which I use as reference when shite is just what it is and nothing more or less.

    i gladly leave that crap to you.I don t wanna start a new discussion with someone who probably will say that daws all sound the same.I tried them all and they all suck compared to pro tools

    The amount of studios who have decided to move to either Logic or Cubase is quite staggering. Not because of any reasons other than the subscription, support and the mediocre MIDI in desperate need of an upgrade for over a decade.
    As a pure audio and post-production tool, no matter what anyone says, it is still excellent but their business model needs serious work before they lose too many more. Some have stuck with the pre-subscription model of ProTools for the simple reason - no BS and have one of the other two as well.

    Historically EMAGIC (Gmbh) made one of the very first comprehensive MIDI and notation software called "Notator" that actually was a first because it was tailored for musicians. It was released on a then ATARI and MacIntosh. Cubase followed. These became along with a now defunct "SAW" one of the very first digital recording systems with EMAGIC's aptly retitled "Logic Audio". They sold it to Apple. ATARI, then the biggest seller rested on its laurels and died a natural death. EMAGIC also were one of the first to invent the pitch changing algorithm and digital multi-tracking, before ProTools was even a thought to expanding from its mere 4-track capacity in 1991 which sold for $6,000 then. These were days when 8MB RAM was considered a lot and hard disks were 20MB. Ancient history now.

    I do not think it is so much Apple as it is the application. Personally, I think ProTools is great for many things but if you try and tell me that its MIDI is as good as Cubase or Logic I'll laugh at you because it is shit.

    BTW I legitimately own PT, Cubase and Logic and have been doing it since EMAGIC.

    i do.Even when you import a midi file, it saves all the data independently on where the file was created.With other daw's you have to adapt t he track to the imported file.And when it s about modifying the file, i honestly don t know what you can wish more than what you get with PT, you can change everything in it, pitch, tempo , dynamics, everything

    back on topic, what's your thoughts on 2022.12 release with BETA native Apple Silicon support?

    It´s gonna be a long run to full native, specially concerning third party plug-ins, but no problem, the Rosetta-Version seems to be rock-solid.
    No problems yet with 2022.12.

    Does not have:
    • Built-in velocity input filter--scale and compress values as you play, not afterwards - Been around for over a decade.
    • Severely lacking in MIDI filter construction abilities. Cubase and Logic have had these for nearly 20 years.
    • Logic has had a feature for while where you can capture a performance you were just playing, whether you were in record or not (all live performance goes into RAM until you stop and hit play again). Cubase can also do it but in a different way. PT? Nope.
    • Comprehensive MIDI Expression mapping in PT? :rofl: Nope. Steinberg invented it. Most other DAW's use it.
    • Comprehensive MIDI to score editing? Nope. PT's scoring is a joke and inaccurate.
    • Flawless MIDI keyboard detection and mapping without errors? PT? - Known for H/W to MIDI errors on multiple MIDI forums.
    • Quick punch in MIDI has been available in Cubase and Logic for over two decades.
    • Logic and Cubase as far back as the early 1990s were getting 0.05ms MIDI latency. With The Opcode 8 Port SE they were getting undetectable latency. PT could not even see it and nobody serious then made a driver for PT. Even today, serious MIDI people do not use PT.
    There's more but that's a decent start - Plus the fact is PT was late to the party and invented after people who did most of the work for them.

    PT is a great post production and recording DAW. That is where it ends. if you ask any dedicated million dollar PT studio the place it falls down most? A majority will say MIDI.
    Ask live performers what they use for live performances for MIDI and syncing with recorded Audio - It is more often Studio One, Cubase, Logic, Ableton Live and Reaper.

    I haven't even entered into the VST standards where the only way PT could use them was through a third party aax plugin like Blue Cat's Patchwork. It took them fifteen years to allow non-proprietary hardware to work instead of trying to force people to use only what they wanted. Not even entering into the massive DAE errors it got on several updates that required patch fixes.

    Every DAW has something to offer and every one of them lacks something. Full-stop.

    That's why we have so many other DAW's to chose from and use for their particular strengths. Personally I keep PT12.5HD around for final mixes after all the tracking and midi is done and everything has been bounced down from cubase/nuendo/reason etc... I like the sound of PT's audio engine for final mixdown. I think that is where PT excels. Taking a bunch of audio tracks and mixing them down with great clarity and edge. I don't use PT for much else, but for final mixes there's nothing better, IMO...

    After years of using it, I finally cut the PT cord and switched to Nuendo, it's light years ahead of PT, I do agree pt is great for mixing, but I decided to hop on the Steinberg train.....
