This question is for the seasoned Melodyne users here: When I use the Melodyne timing tools to change the length of a note, this sometimes introduces a weird and very audible artifact. It often happens if the note changed contains sibilances or 't' 'p' 'b' sounds.

So far I haven't been able to determine what causes the artifact or how to avoid it, my only solution currently is to undo the last timing change I made that introduced the artifact. Is there a way to fix this? Is this normal?

Manually adjusting the timing of backing vocals to the main lead vocal is something super useful but can't really do it if it adds those weird artifacts.

Has anybody experienced a similar issue and knows how to avoid this?

    Thank you very much!

Are you using the separation tools to manipulate the note, plosive and ess sounds?

I should also mention that the Melodyne site & youtube channel have info on the many ways of working with audio & MIDI in Melodyne.
Read, watch & learn from trying. You need an intermediate level of knowledge to get the most out of Melodyne.

Yes, I use the separation tool all the time, it mostly happens with /k/ sounds. Even if I separate them, the stretching of the pitched notes affects the timing of the sibilances and creates artifacts. It seems like the crystal clear k or q or s, t, p, b sounds turn into filtered really weird effects. Any resources are helpful. I've been working for quite a long time with Melodyne and I still can't figure out how to get this fixed. Thank you!

Melodyne will create those artifacts if the sound contains any sibilance, non-pitched or sharp consonants when time stretching. But it's not just melodyne, every pitch and time correction application will to some degree. At this point, there is no better solution. Melodyne used to create those artifacts with pitching too but they've solved it with the newer versions. So hopefully they'll find a way for this too. That being said, I'm hearing good things about Syncroarts Repitch. Albeit buggy, I heard it sounds even more natural than melodyne. I haven't tried it but Maybe you should.

From my knowledge of audio manipulation in general, I think it might help using audio that was recorded at a higher sample rate (of 96 Khz minimal), and make alterations in small steps, render, then do a second pass.

It would be better if you could attach a screen record on the post.
