I wasnt making music on the PC at the time so correct me if I'm wrong or if it was later, but I'm pretty sure CamelPhat was pretty huge back then.

it was later than the 2000's but i remember those days when symphobia was THE SHIT, i couldn't download it because i had a 60 gb hard disk, 60!!! lol, and no money to upgrade

 

A couple mentioned ones that I loved early on.. Pro 53 and FM7. But one I wanted to mention was actually a DXi called Dreamstation. I can't remember when that one came out, but it was the first virtual synth for me, I believe.. After working in trackers or with sound fonts. Anyways, it was bad ass in its time. Actually, it even first released with some tracker component to it, I believe, but that was forever ago now. I think that one may have been in the 90s,maybe.

Even tough I started using plugins in 2015, I know many of them listed here... Somehow It's much fun to me to work with really old plugins. My favs are already mentioned here. Sadly I'm too young to remember old trackers or DXi plugins .-. I heard that FastTracker2 and Dreamstation were really good.

My favs are probably Steinberg Hypersonic & Xphraze, Synth1, Pro 53, The Camel Audio stuff (sad that the sister site alchemy doesn't work on my pc ;_;), the old reFX plugins (mostly quadraSID, plastiCZ, slayer and of course Vanguard). Don't know many 00's FX, I still really like smartelectronix and Camel Audio FX.

 

Koblo stuff
Native Instruments early stuff pro-five, generator, dynamo etc -> best
90s stuff was best though, nubus mac digidesign steinberg stuff LOVE LOVE LOVE it

 

Logic's built in stuff was really popular. Especially when it was still multiplatform.

Ok, it's not a VSTi but it was stabler (at least to me!) than some creaky plugins.

 

Still missing the Logic ES2 (on windows) ...
