i used few of his compressors on my mixes and then these comps got updated. but there's no backwards compability :deep_facepalm: so i lost all my presets and mixing tweaks i did on my songs. Going back to the old version to finish my songs, but from now, never again going to use those plugins. Ok, its free... but im sure a lot of people got pissed on the fact they lost their work just because of a regular UI update. I'm just telling that my experience with this company is over and i really don't encourage any of you to dig in their plugins. Not even with warez i got this type of issue.

I'm sorry for you, but it's your own fault. You alone are responsible for the full integrity of your system including your projects, not some independent developer in turkey. This includes software backups stored in project folders before update and/or upgrade.

That's why i was able to go for the old versions. But i'm stuck with them, forever. I can't upgrade those plugins. For you it makes sense using the ver. 1 of the plugin forever?

The point is. If i upgrade i lost my old projects. I can't have both versions. So im forced to use the old version and keep it for my old projects and never update, because if i do so, i will loose everything

Rule 1: Do not update or upgrade your system's hardware/software components while a project is still unfinished.
Rule 2: Backup your system's working state (macos or windows) to a reliable media in case of emergency.
Rule 3: Backup your data as often as you can to these three locations: a physical media, another physical media, a cloud location.
Rule 4: Print(bounce, render or whatever you call) what you've done with the software you use and keep those files beside your project files after you finish a project (an arrangement or a mixing or a mastering or editing or whatever you do)
Rule 5: Take photos and write down notes of your hardware settings after you finish a project and keep them with your project files.

These are five golden rules for a happy life. Cheers.

We have this subject come up so frequently. Someone hunting down the "Magic Version", "Magic Presets", and the like.

If I am using these plugins and I insert them or a similar plugin, how hard is it to get back to the original settings? I don't know about you, but I set things up the last time and can almost always duplicate or better my own efforts quickly enough.

He makes Amazing plugins and I will happily continue using them, but thanks for your suggestion.

Whats so special about those plugins that can't be replaced by any other doing the same task? Sonic quality?

Anyway, @Sinus Well gave the word. I backed up to an external drive the older versions of AO plugins that worked on my projects. Unfortunately i can't have both versions running (the older and the "update") on my OS, so i'm keeping the older just for my actual projects, and after that i'm going to replace those from companies that actually have backwards compability. I don't think it's fair to say it's my fault that this "independent developer from turkey" doesnt even allow you to have both versions if he knows that his "upgrades" don't keep your setup after being upgraded. It would be nice to have a ver. 1.0, 2.0, and choosing between them, at least. And we all know theses plugins are only free because they are buggy, because the company once was paid, and the customers hated it. But what works, works, right? :bleh:

I never use AO for entirely different reasons.

Y'know, as there's no real installation for Analogue Obsession plugins, you could just get the newer version, drop it next to the older version, rename the newer VST3 to something different (like Lala_v2.vst3), and use that version going forward. They don't take much space, so it really shouldn't be a problem.

I agree that developers should always take care of backward compatibility, or at least clearly state when it's not the case.
You could try to rename the new plugins, example: the version you used in old projects was EQ1. Rename the new version to EQ1A so you would have both in your system.

Anyways, if you often get back to old projects, you could backup your plugin and preset folders regularly.

Analog Obsession himself has suggested this to people who have this problem. Some have asked him to name the new ones as such for his new releases, but he's stated that he prefers the cleaner look of the names without version numbers. Understandable I suppose. If you do have problems with this you can again name the new version yourself as you've copying the plugin into your folder.

Bigger issue with his updates is he changes the calibration and sound often so it becomes a totally different sounding and reacting plugin.

Please do not use a computer to make music, especially if you are afraid of software problems:guru:

Tunca is smart as hell (im talking about business). Everybody hated his plugins when it was paid, so he understood no one was giving a penny for that stuff. What he did? Gave all for free, people started loving him for that, became a saint and now earns 10k a month for the same shitty stuff. GE-NI-AL
