Hi there I really like this 303 sound used by Blank & Jones in this remix.

Sound comes in at 1:12.

Its quite common in the early 2000's for Hard Trance tracks to use this sound.

It sounds like a 303 with some distortion/overdrive and some reverb. Is it actual 303/clone being used or is it a recreation from a Nord Lead, Virus, JP-8000 Virtual Analogue?

 

it could be any of them. I would guess this to be from an original but that is instinct/memory more than for some real reason.

Is the sound in the original or only in the remix? Then you could look at their gear lists perhaps. And still not rule out sampling.

Is your hidden agenda to prove that an original TB-303 is crazy, for whatever price they charge now? You'd be correct. People cannot tell them apart.

 

It's just Fully Accented 303 Square Note with Distortion & High Resonance.
On the 16th notes pattern is like 1 & 5. Rest of the pattern is without notes.
You can do it easly on the any 303 clone.
D16 Phoscyon 2 is one of the best software clone.
Behringer TD-3 is one of the cheapest hardware clone and is more than enough for that.

The sound is exclusive to that remix.

I was just wondering if it was a VA or a actual 303 or one of them hardware clones that came out in the 90's.

 

I know, it's just so hard to tell them apart. Plus the quality of streaming audio doesn't help either.

I wouldn't immediately think to use the JP-8000 for this sound; but lots of these guys did have them, or the old JV hanging around. People will say things like " Only an original squelches the blah blah blah". Often, they are either just hyped-up on their own gear/prices or they don't know what they are talking about. Or hyping it to others. I use the TD-3 all the time for acid lines, and I probably couldn't tell it apart from an original. I use the Virus TI for acid lines much more frequently, only because it sounds better than the behringer. I think most of the 90s clones were not any great build qualities and there weren't that many made; as it was mostly small companies/individuals who were making them. The Nordlead2 is a very "clean" or "clear" sounding synth compared with your example audio; and so it is not my guess. Even though plenty of these around, just like the JP/JVs.

A lot of these techno/trance/house EDM guys were "hardware purists" as well. So my final guess is Original Tb-303.

btw the Roland Cloud version is really worth a look. just toggle "run optimized" option in preferences.

 

For me it sounds like TB-303 or Clone. It have some characteristics that sounds more than original 303 or clone than VA Synth.

Future Retro 777 (2000? I'm not sure) - I think it sounds the worst

Muon Tau Pro (Paid) (05.2001) - In pesimistic scenario If they release track in late 2001 they can use it

Behringer TD-3 sounds better than those hardware clones but with reverb and in mix I will don't give a shit I think lol.

What you are looking for is the Korg Prophecy but my guess is that the sound in particular for that record was taken from a sample library that used the Korg Prophecy.

I had one and can tell you it sounds like this:

thousands of tracks from hands up and trance used a single acid note like that, very similar in sound.
a lot of sample packs from that era as well contained loads of acid notes, so do not exclude sampling at all.
digitally, you can recreate this particular sound with almost anything, dont get obsessed over true303 sound unless you want to do a whole acid track i guess

Just loaded the preset in the prphecy and you are right, sounds just like it

After looking at your videos.
In my opinion no.
It sounds like a Saw Wave and different than in the track.
There is no thump from Accented Square note.
I hear in the track 303 Square note with accent.
I bet it's Original 303/Clone or Sample.
It has characteristic thump from Accented note and Accent knob 70% - 90% on Square wave.
