There's been a long time that hip hop variants and subgenres were in the top of the charts, even by pop music influenced by trap and hip hop. Do you guys think it will be the same thing in 2023? Or there's is something that's coming stronger than that and will domain radio?

not that it ever goes away, but I will go with House Music. The retro "influenced" dance production will move from disco to house. Chronologically. I think Drake made a few songs already? Plus, Dua Lipa's producers have run out of 70s records to scour for samples to steal.

    and more Electro. And breaks.

Depends on where you're based at. Have you seen how different the charts are in every region?

we might just end up bashing rocks together while beating on animal skins and singing add some metal and some butt flapping...

or maybe some nice music? that would be a change.

Has anyone seen some of the names of genres on Wikipedia. I swear some of them sound made up like Bro-Country. Seapunk, Outsider House, Weird Soundcloud. Dreampunk. Some of them are genres that already exist just under an older name.

Still not a fan of "Hyperpop", I don't put ice cream on my Pizza but I reckon that might be next.

I'd like to see Acid and Breakbeat Hardcore make a return.

On a serious note, Techno is getting way and way more influenced from old school Trance and I think it'll keep for a couple years to be like that, at least in mainstream melodic and peak time techno.
A new branch of Industrial Techno and EBM is getting the spotlight as a counterpoint too.

In terms of mainstream pop I imagine a resurgence of 90s influenced songs, mode and fashion is blinking towards 90s clothing style, from urban hip hop to oversized suits, youngsters are embracing this 90s revival mode in a strong way.
Guitars are definitely coming back and I wouldn't be surprised if something like Nu Grunge kicks in, otherwise Post Punk, New Wave and Indie acts like The Neighborhood will keep surfing the waves of success.

In terms of underground, I don't see any mainstream future for Future Bass, it'll remain confined to the world of videogames, Synthwave will keep declining and 80s vibes as well will remain as a niche, despite the efforts of the Chillwave and Lo-fi community, I don't see any avantguardist improvement or step forward theme in these subgenres.

Vaporwave will keep its best on their ambient flavors with more Dreampunk and Slushwave releases, Drone and Dreamtone will be the cake heaven for experimental deep ocean enthusiasts.

EDM will be again popular with this new injection from Techno, Midtempo, Industrial, (new Dubstep revival?) and the usual mellower Prog/Tech House movements, DnB will live in its own realm, Slap House and Drift Phonk will remain confined in their TikTok bubbles unless some Trap/Rap heavyweight will bring on the influences and monetize the moment.

For the first time in years, I feel that Trap and Mumble Rap will see a slow but inevitable decline in popularity, giving some new fresh air for other subgenres.

    Just my 2 cents.

In the end what really makes me wonder it's not what will be the next popular music genres, but if anything worth my time or interest will come out as a new genre and innovative art form under the umbrella of electronic music...
    Time will tell.

I think you bring up a good point about the 90's. As much as I love stuff influenced by the 80's I think that decade has been largely strip mined apart from its final three years. The irony out a lot of 90's rock at least in the UK was influence by the 60's and 70's.

I think most genres styles come about by a new synth usually a VST where someone makes a sound or finds and or tweaks a Preset. At least when comes to modern flavours? What VST will knock Serum off its perch? Serum killed Massive but what will kill Serum?

Don't hate me but Morgan Wallen (country artist) just caused a ticket buying frenzy here in the US. In my area, a standing room only ticket in the back is more than$500 usd and to put your ass in a seat starts at $1200 usd. Country music will always be in the mix even if Country music isn't what it used to be.
