Why can't we use egg carton as soundproofing foam is a fairly often asked issue. Because of their shape and composition, egg cartons have a theoretically proven ability to act as sound absorbers. The egg carton's jagged design scatters and deflects sound waves, which lessens echo and reduce the sound to certain frequencies. This soundproofing technique is just temporary and may not always yield the desired results. You can choose this for short-term use. However, it is always advised to purchase soundproofing items or materials from the market to achieve the necessary sound reduction coefficients, which vary depending on the material and thickness.

Egg cartons are inexpensive, easy to install and can be used to some extent for your studios and rooms.

Hell no. Egg carton myth has been debunked many times and can cause more trouble than good.
We're not in "build your perfect home studio" 90's anymore :dont:

Yep. Besides being totally ineffective, it will become home to several nasty insects, especially cockroaches. Forget about it.

Egg Cartons don't work well and are a serious fire hazard. Foam is toxic. I use thick cotton blankets (slight fire hazard too, but non-toxic).

Sound absorbers are cheap to build yourself. Just get mineral wool, build a frame in cheap wood, and some cloth in color of choice.
It's not toxic and it IS what is used in treated professional studios.

Bass traps are also important and are built the same way. Mineral wool of different thickness, and in corners, depending on the room's measures.

Egg cartons are just a waste of time.

PS. Buy MINERAL wool and thin cloths. Do NOT buy glas fiber wool since it's bad for your lungs.

Also, deflectors aren't as important, but these should be placed on the other side of room.

No, that's not true: "insulation glass wool, stone wool, and slag wool, are considered "not classifiable as to carcinogenicity in humans".
I should say the "stone wool" is what is commonly used in studios. There are specific variants that are perfect for audio waves.

I have a treated studio designed by a professional acoustic expert (a professor). I built everything myself with help of a friend. He suggested stone wool, it isn't a problem for your health if you don't constantly tear it apart (like working with any "loose" materials).

?? because it does nothing to soundproofing and nothing to sound absorption either,
jagged design is still just a paper, which is about as effective as...paper....so barely anything on very high frequencies if any,
since it does nothing to soundproofing, it cannot yield any meaningful results, and therefore is totally undesired material for any acoustical installations,

mods, seriously, this thread belongs to Humor section of the forums, https://audiosex.pro/forums/humor.66/

I've tried them in the past myself. Egg cartons do virtually nothing!!

And I even had a lot more than in this video!

    1) It's a hoax/myth. The SAC sucks. :D

    2) soundproofing and sound/acoustic treatment are two entirely different things.

Stop keeping this annoying myth alive. Read up on acoustic treatment, soundproofing and physics in general.

This video is completely useless, as the audio in the part with the acoustic panels is MONO and the audio at the beginning and with the egg cartons is STEREO. Maybe he did this to make the effect more obvious, but this is just cheating.

Just watch this. 4 Minutes are enough to destroy the myth of Egg cartons for "better sound" -physical laws ...
