Hello everybody !
is it possible in KEY EDITOR VIEW (piano roll) to play instrument 1, 2,3... with a midi keyboard without re-selecting instrument 1,2... each time in PART VIEW (arrangement view). It doesn't work for me with a midi keyboard only with my mouse ?! In FL STUDIO for example it works without problem.

I am not sure I have undestood what you mean

Anyhow, arm the tracks you wanna play with "the red REC button in the project window" (or with the ORANGE/monitor button...), then open the key editors you need. This way you can play/listen/monitor a certain track while editing another one

 

You can select as many different instruments at once to receive a live input, however what might stop you is the preference setting, Project & MixConsole/Enable Record on Selected Midi Track. This while it can be handy, it automatically selects the last track you clicked on as the midi input, if you switch it off, you will always have to prime a track for recording, but you can then pick as many tracks as you want without fear that the next time you open the key editor it will automatically switch to that track only. Hope that makes sense. Best thing to do is map a keyboard short cut to this preference for quick switching on or off....

 

thank you for your reply...i show you what i mean : in key editor, i've selected BASS and with my midi keyboard i always listen string because it is selected in arranger view, so i must always return to arranger view and selected BASS for hear and play BASS, there is no link between these two different windows views like in FL Studio for example ?

 

Sorry I'm not familiar with Fruity to be sure of what your asking, but I can see both parts on top of each other is I select both of them in the key editor. If that's what you mean?

 

yes i can see both parts on top of each other. But, in KEY EDITOR VIEW, you can't play BASS if STRING is selected in FIRST/ARRANGER VIEW. you must return to FIRST/ARRANGER VIEW + select BASS in order to play BASS with my your midi keyboard.Is it possible to play only the instrument (with your midi keyboard) selected in key editor view ("BASS" on the right near "Channel" ) WITHOUT RETURNING in FIRST ARRANGER VIEW ? thanks

 

that is what i would like to do, BUT it doesn't do this ! i don't know why...i've defaults settings in my cubase 12. It's basic but it does'nt work , Crazy !?

 

That is correct in Cubase! You can play any track while editing another. If you want to play the bass you should select the bass track in the project window. If you want to play both you can hold ctrl and select (higlight) both tracks. But the project window always determines what tracks are selected for input (midi or audio).

Fl Studio has the BEST Midi Editor for fast editing.
I´m still searching for best methods to work in Cubase, because i dont like the midi editor.
But the automation in Cubase i like.

So i started to see Cubase as HOST for recording and arrangement.
I build my drums with MPC and maschine, started to understand Bluecat Patchwork, Kshrm chain.
All VST are triggered via midi in Cubase than.
Then save small sessions as modules, that i can import in sessions.

BUT, i´m really sad, that i cannot use the FL Studio Midi Editor with drag and drop functions in Cubase as Host.
This would be a gamechanger.

There is a trick to send the midi out from FL to a VST in Cubase and record it.
But drag and drop would be killer
