Variety Of Sound releases ThrillseekerLA mkII free compressor for Windows - Dec 12, 2022

Variety Of Sound has introduced an update to the the ThrillseekerLA free optical stereo compressor, originally released in March 2012. Optimized for gentle mix bus coloring, ThrillseekerLA mkII comes with a an advanced opto cell emulation and various other improvements.

It combines smoothest optical compression with vibrant coloration options that deliver a unique box tone in their own right, including thrilling bass and elegant top end void of any harshness in the mids. Its compression not only glues things together effortlessly but also enhances the stereo image by increasing depth and dimension.

Changes in ThrillseekerLA mkII:

• Technical redesign with advanced opto cell emulation.
• Simplified gainstaging including automatic output gain compensation.
• Streamlined coloring options: Interstage, Tube and Loudness.
• New compress/limit option and reworked sidechain filtering.
• The plugin is available to download for free in 32/64-bit VST format for Windows.

There's a lightbulb next to 'tube' in the new version. Goes from green to yellow-red. Green = Intended THD%. Yellow = THD% higher than intended. Red = THD% way beyond what was intended.

Correct, but he wanted to point out the difference to v1 and it looks like these options aren't available in mkII anymore - at least I couldn't find them and they're not mentioned in the manual.
Additionally, the external sidechain input has been removed.

 

I keep both versions of all VoS stuff:
- legacy x86 for old classic vibe
- new x64 for improved vibe

Same for many synths and vst fx. Also for revision of old projects (ozone as example, from very earliest legacy versions up to v10)

 

Found bug with Interstage. It does short delay/echo effect, noticeable on short rimshot/snare. T becomes Trm

I like on melodies and vocals. not the kind of thing i'd put on drums, but has a great tone for a modified LA2A

 

In the old version I liked that you can choose the part of the spectrum that is affected by saturation. I'm curious to listen to the new version when I get an opportunity in the coming days.

 

Great stuff. VOS plugins are too good to be free; but they are.
