Haha you mean when I sing with a clean voice without ''distortion'' ? I think that's how it's called by singing teachers, when the voice sounds like torn and growling - they say it's singing with ''distortion''.
I sing with a cleaner voice in my Iron Maiden cover, also on my channel. But for this cover, I wanted the vocals to sound mean and aggressive. So I added a more Dio, Blackie Lawless vibe to it you know ? haha
Could have sung cleaner like the original, but I didn't want to imitate Mustaine. I wanted a different version. I love the original though. All respect to Dave. He wrote this masterpiece.

Thanks ! And yes, MY voice : ) I wanted the vocals to sound meaner and more aggressive than the original. so I gave it a more Dio, Blackie Lawless vibe, cause I love such vocals. It's more like a matter of taste.
I disagree with you though putting Michael Jackson in the list of bad singers haha Michael Jackson was a great and skilled singer.
About my voice, for a cleaner sound, there is my Iron Maiden cover on my channel.
About the mix - oh that was a tough one! Because there is much going on that song.

I spent a lot of time adjusting the volume of each instrument, and panning, and listening in 3 different set of speakers.
But nothing special used. Only EQ for guitars, some Reverb, Delay, Compression for vocals and snare. All the most usual things we all do when mixing. But if you have specific questions, just ask me.
The bass has a low and high pass. So I could control the lower and higher frequencies separately. Cause I like to hear the bass mids as well.
Guitars in most part of the song, one panned 100% to the left and the other 100% to the right. Except solos which are on center as you noticed.
    what else? Really nothing special.
I mix entirely with Bandlab Cakewalk DAW.

Oh I've seen this because I often watch reactions/analysis on YT of some of my fav groups.
It comes down to the background of the teacher. If they come from a classical background that's what they say because, well, they can't possibly know more.
If they're into metal/rock then I've heard quite a detailed range of words: growl, scream reinforced by false vocal chords, abrasion, vocal fry... I'm half making up them because I'm no expert myself.

Yeah I know. I've watched quite a few videos by Ken Tamplin, and he calls that ''distortion'', which I think it's a good word to describe it.

There's no such a thing as "too much distortion" for a metalhead
Jokes aside, I'm a Ken Tamplin subscriber. He definitely knows his stuff.

WoW, what an awesome cover all around :) My favorite metal song of all time, I must have listened to it every morning on the way to highschool for at least a couple years. The musicianship you guys achieved here gave me goosebumps.
There was nothing in the mix that bothered me, if memory serves, the drums are a tiny little bit withdrawn in the original as well, and on all their albums of that period. But I haven't listened to it for maybe 15 years. Time to do it again, hey?

Oh that is kinda difficult. I mean, more people involved, it would not be very nice of me to be sharing their recordings.
But I mixed everything, any questions about the mix, I'm glad to answer.
