Not sure if there is anyone that really into these two here, but all of us (maybe not teenagers now) probably have listened to them (or forced to) on the radio back in early 2000 and unconsciously can singalong atleast one song from each.

Who is better overall in your opinion ? thoughts, drunken thoughts, whatever are welcomed. Your vote is important to shape the future, pick wisely.

Apples for apples I will have to go with Hailey here..
Seems more Real/sincere, and kinda plays the keys too so that's a plus..

Avril looks quite stiff, like a clone doll instructed to sing the notes, do the show and that's it..
and that's another reason why I'd take her to bed first..

In all fairness tho,
Avril's track is harmonically more complex, and probably more technically demanding..

These two are from my era and I'm always blown away by Hayley's vocals. Avril has great music too and there's no doubt she's still influencing the big artists now, like the article says, Olivia and Rina, who I think really carry Avril's sound forward, although I prefer the latter artist a bit more. Even then, if I had to choose I'd still go with Hayley cause she's been consistently a good performer and artist

 

Controversial opinion:

Paramore's music is a bit of a mess.
I get why Misery Business was big at the time of its release. I loved that song. What came after Misery Business though? No idea.

Gluing that many melodically, harmonically and rhythmically disparate pieces is fun for one-offs every now and then, but Paramore made entire albums like that.

It's not like they were breaking new ground either. Just try-harding for try-harding's sake.

I first listen to Paramore's early stuff because it was the emo era, everybody listening to that kind of music, but then forgot about their existence for a while until Ilan Rubin (played for Nine Inch Nails for a while, touring member) joined on drums and that self-titled album was mixed by one of my favourite artist/guitarist/bassist/engineer/producer of all time, Ken Andrew (Failure). I kinda like Hayley's solo track "Simmer". It's cool, dark and interesting, atleast to me. She was okay.

but Avril though, she is on different level I think, song-writing wise, honesty, genuine, innocent rebel, all that kind of shit, until major label ruined her by changing her image. Sad. Still rate her higher than Hayley, because she was a phenomena on her debut, she was like the next big thing after System Of A Down/Slipknot era for popular rock/punk music. She sold 6 times more records than Paramore stat wise, you can argue people stopped buying records etc, but just saying.

Not really a fan of both, but it is a curse to love music, you just can't let it past you, gotta take interest in everything or you left behind.

I wasn't much into their music style but they both had at least a few really good songs that I listened here and there.

I kind of agree with the majority here. I would prefer Hailey music-wise. And Lavigne was almost unfairly smoking hot. Not only hot, just beautiful, that doll-like face was pretty impressive to see. Fuck, I drool only by remembering it.

 

I vote for whoever had the big pink phallus mic.

comparison doesn't make much sense - different music, different era/style, different target audience,
Best Damn Thing (Avril) and Riot! (Hayley) are from same year, 2007, and imo are peak of their career,
Avril aged up into classy artist, Hayley managed her kinda ADHD,

there are (were) many other equally (if not more) interesting pop-punk-rock female-voiced bands:
Look Right Penny (if she didn't have cancer and band didn't fade, would be chart topper now),
Halestorm, Pretty Reckless (did you know she's the tiny girl in Grinch movie from 2000?), Guano Apes, Kontrust (they have new singer in 2022 now though), Gwen Stefani, Against The Current, Ava Max...just to name few...
and handful of great musicians/artist in cover bands, like First To Eleven, Halocene, Ai Mori....

Hayley is probably a much better versed technical singer and I also like her songs more.
Songs like skater boy still have a nostalgic feeling for me aswell.

 

As for the topic, I vote for Nina and Louise from Verruca Salt as co-hottest and certainly best.

 

Time to put on Much Ado About Nothing, the creme de la creme of his work in that area. I think I've seen the rumor about him playing Revan from Knights of the Old Republic. If Lucas came out of retirement to write the dialogue it might rival him reciting Shakespeare.
