Hi Guys.
I was listening to music and I came across this sound. I would like to be able to make it so I can try it in a song I'm making.
That Keyboard sound just starts with delay. I hear something like a Rhodes, with a Delay that seems to have a Filter. But I'm not sure. And I don't think it's really a rhodes.
Do you know how I can get it or what Vsti has this sound built in?

If you have U-He Diva you can purchase the Luftrum's preset bank mentioned in the SC description linked above that includes the recreation of this sound.

You could recreate a convincing copy of this sound with pretty much any subtractive synth and a delay like Echo in Ableton or Valhalla Delay for example.

I haven't played with Diva for a while but I don't think you can modulate the Delay. To get this Luftrum preset sounding like Pure Shores you need some Mod on the Delay. I agree it sounds like a Filter being modulated. I'm assuming this preset is a single note and Delay

FilterFreak by SoundToys might work off the top of my head. Grab that audio loop off Soundcloud and send it through a Demo of FilterFreak

Another option would be to add velocity sensitivity to the Filter and play those 5 notes with decreasing velocity wired to the Amp Level and some small Filter decrease for that fading effect. Then you could add the Filter Modulation in the Synth. If you add a Delay after that without feedback, or a small amount you might get close to the feel

The Luftrum preset is really good despite the limitations of Diva

 

Diva's delay has Lp and Hp filters and they slightly and progressively cut highs or lows on every repetition till a certain treshold, then the cut will stay there even when feedback is at max. For this type of sound (with not so much repetitions) it can work imho and so can work all the other delays mentioned in this thread of course.

I wouldn't bother with replicating a delay effect manually playing the repetitions etc... it would also lose the subtle stereo modulations occurring in the delay

 

Slighlty distorted Rhodes-like synth sound will do.
1/8th dotted delay, getting duller with the repetitions. A lot of delays can do this. The 'filter' is produced by the velocity of the instrument, IMHO. IOW, I can't recognize any special filter.

 

FYI: The description in the Diva preset says it's a signature sound created by William Orbit on a Juno 106.

 

Listen to the repeats at 26 seconds. The filter drops on the first repeat then opens back up on the second repeat. I can't see how a delay could cause that repeat if Filter movement on the Synth causes the LFO type effect... At this point it actually sounds like maybe some twiddling on the EQ because of how sharp that change is, Mixing Desk after the Delay, which would probably be an insert in that case, rather than a Return. It loses a uniform LFO sweep here IMO and the movement changes quite a lot throughout... Could be multiple LFO's maybe but it feels like it might have been done by hand? Orbit being a DJ (knob twiddler) that seems likely to me

I was thinking it was the Tremelo and the Modulation Plugins in Logic, before I read your post. I still think that. There's another chord (guitar) which is interesting to me. They have it heavily reverbed but then it chokes the sound to 0 in about a millisecond. I'm not into this song, but it has some cool production tricks.

 

I think that's possible. The amplitude of the repeats keeps changing as well, so its unlikely that its a Delay unless a Filter after the Delay is randomly increasing the amp, like you might get with a high Resonance

Could've easily been made with an automation lane, me thinks.
Another option could be that the first two notes are played and the velocity mainly affects the filter. This way the second note, played with less velocity would produce a duller sound. This could also explain the slightly strange level of the delays - although there're delays where you can set the level of the individual repeats.

 

Hmmm... There's a good logic in that. On the repeat before 26 seconds there's something similar, where the two notes repeat in the same odd way, then the ones at 26 are much clearer, where it goes down up and back down again in a very similar way...

I'd thought about that, but I dismissed it... The weird thing about that is the 5 notes. Its a very odd Delay repeat. I guess it could be a 4 note repeat and what I just typed was exactly what you've said here... Echoboy has this kind of repeat where you can set the levels. Wouldn't have existed back then but I get your example... It does seem to phase slightly when we get those odd up down notes

Its really odd how most of the repeats seem to fade just like its a Delay, regulation Filter Decay and Amp Decay, but then you get those random anomalies

Something else worth noticing is that at 2:34 he uses something sounding like a tremelo, so it sounds like he was playing around with tremelos

Hope this is useful to the OP... I think these are the best areas to explore to get somewhere in the ballpark

Thank you all for your answers. Sorry for not responding sooner, I've been a little busy, but I've been reading all the comments from my cell phone. Now I'm going to sit down and try the Diva Preset (if I have it).
I've been reading about what they say about the Delay. The truth is that I find it weird, it's like there is a filter and there is not. It could be that it was done manually. I'm not an experienced Delay guy, but I'm a Delay freak, I put Delay on all my guitars. Apart from that, I had already heard this sound with this Delay in other songs, that, now I don't remember, but they are from the 90's I think, and if I remember correctly, I think there was a song by Gustavo Cerati that had this sound, I don't know if you know this artist.
Anyway, I'm going to try it and then I'll tell you later.

The delay could have also been modulated with a wah wah pedal I think. At least it reminds me of it, but without being to resonant. Automation on hi and lo pass would do the trick, too.

I tried the diva preset... but I don't think it captures this particular sound well. The delay is not there, but I wouldn't worry about that. More about the specific timbre of the sound itself, which is not there, too.

EDIT: I only know the album "Bocanada" (1999) by Gustavo Cerati, which is really good. It is like a mixture of 90s Radiohead and Trip Hop of that era, with spanish vocals... great stuff. I'm not sure, but I don't think that sound you're after is on that album. Thanks for the reminder that this exists.
