As long as they aren't, they get robbed for thousands and thousand of $ again and again.

As Linus says in the video, the problem is not the naive guys (audiophiles or not, or pretending to be "specialists") who fall into this shitty marketing trap, the problem is the vendors who set the trap, they should be put in jail or something.

The technical explanation near the end of the video is really indispensable to understand how deep the manipulation is...

 

For anyone not understanding this, the network puts audio into packets on the computer, they get packed into more packets on the router and sent to a router that can read them and unpack them as the identical audio file that it started out as...

I'm afraid this is more complex than that.
First, the end point of your security is your responsibility. I don't know what does it mean to "not have enough time to do basic research". I did saw a lot of people who simply don't want to. Or worse yet, want to go with whatever their brain tells them without even as much as checking their sanity against a reference. I find it hard to emphasize with such people in these questions.
Second, as the saying goes, supply creates demand. As long as there are people who are easily scammed, there will be scammers who prey on them. Doesn't by any means imply there should be no regulations. On the contrary, scammers' inevitablility should always be kept in mind when developing regulations, and shit like what's in the video should definitely be illegal.
But it would be better when people are just eduated enough to not fall for at least something that braindead. Or at least have a general idea about fact-checking what they're fed against multiple neutral sources.

Scammers are definitely responsible for the scam, but the scammed ones are responsible for systematically not doing anything to protect themselves, not even the basic safety measures.

If you see the Company D-Link and Audiophile, should be clear to anybody that this is a Scam.

D-Link is very cheap and nothing Highend.

 

The important realisation is that a lot of people are falling for this stuff by no fault of their own. Many people just aren't wired that way to enable them to 'get it' - no matter how well you educate them.

Being able to read is one thing, being able to understand what you read is an entirely different thing.

Honestly I don't know what to do with the theoretical idiocracy it leads to (there's no right answer, it's either nations fall into incompetence or a feckin wild west), but this fustercluck is way outside the scope of the video.
What I'm gonna say is, all jokes aside, if you're able to identify yourself as an audiophile, then you probably know how to read and what that "digital signal" thing is.
