Absolutely, since I'm not going to be spending any money these holidays or black friday it's safe to say I won't care if I buy it full price later in the new year or even wait until next black friday to buy it because the price is fair either way so I don't even care too much about a sale on Vanguard 2. It's really actually the only thing in the music department other than a new guitar that I want now. I've had nothing but fond memories with the first Vanguard.

Edit: Oh boo, upon second glance I noticed it's Win 8 compatible but not win 7. I don't even know any grandmothers that ever used win 8 to begin with. I mean not any grandmothers that know about the black keys on a piano.

So, I guess if R2R isn't going to make it compatible with a crack like they have with other non win 7 compatible software then it's going to be a while until I'm able to upgrade to a Win 10 machine since I'm seeing that's it's going to be inevitable to upgrade which is the only time I upgrade to the next operating system.

I believe the best feature is BEING ABLE TO USE PROJECTS WITH VANGUARD 1 AND IT JUST WORKS!!! I revived so many garageband songs where I used a cracked nexus 1 version back in 2008-20010 when I bought nexus 3, They just loaded right up. Now I can go back to my vanguard tracks in garageband and save old presets from over TEN YEARS AGO!!!! ReFx does it right AGAIN!

Looks like pretty basic free synth to me. What fresh it may bring to sound comparing to Surge or Vital? or tons of paid ones

Sometimes you want a basic synth with a predictable or "classic" sound, or maybe an interface designed for expression. Other times you want to do super advanced future sound design and burn out your CPU. I've seen a video from Boris Brejcha where he showed all he used for his "legendary" bass sound for all his first successful songs was simply Fabfilter One. He said he liked how the filter opened.

deadmau5 is a similar story. Look up all those old discussions about magical deadmau5 synths, he just used Massive most of the time! He showed how he made those "legendary" plucks in Massive in livestreams, while people online thought he used a wall full of modular synths or some expensive Moog.

Its more than that, its being able to go back in time 10 years and revive projects that used the now long dead and unupdated vanguard 1. Just like what refx did with Nexus. I installed the nexus 3, opened up old garageband projects from 10 years ago and my parameters were maintained. NI, failed big time on this when the made massive x and old projects that used massive didnt register. Just that alone is worth $80 bucks to me.

@total babe Totally agree, Sine wave is still best sub
@madbuzzin I just try to understand marketing idea of this product, and looks like nostalgia is the only. I think if project was not finished 10 years ago, better to forget about it, and make smth new.

Of course, but I more want to do this to make new music with old sounds, something I am much better at doing ten years later

what's going to be great is someday there will be a vst wrapper that will allow any old vst plugin to run in a modern system perfectly, including a.i. based gui regeneration and scaling.

A synth without multistage envelope generators. Knobs and sliders make sense in music hardware. But when it comes to leverage computer technology, there are much better and more powerful ways to interact with plugins, like MSEGs.

    About old VST's.
Vanguard 1.8 and older versions could generate random patches when you pressed R button on the keyboard.
I don't know about other DAWs but in Ableton 1.1.5 it worked.

Vanguard 2 doesn't have this functionality. There is no option to randomize preset. And in my opinion should have this functionality if it was possible in the older versions.

@VSKZ if you are in touch with reFX could you report it to them?
    Or someone?

we're almost to the point where AI can learn a vst and make a new one, without the malware ;)
