    Hey,

Paid Avid way too much over the last 20 years and I'm done with 'em! Please help, is there a quick and dirty way to to get all my information into a new DAW? I own FL20 and Ableton 11 too.

Wondering if someone can suggest the best way to batch convert all my old Protools projects? I know HarrisonMixbus has a way but I tried that and it was slow and bailed on me a few times. Stumped.

    Cheers!

I don't know for sure, but I don't think there's a way. PT has a very different project structure to both Live and FL. Would take a full-blown AI to convert them properly.
I think you would be better off exporting what you need as audio and keep on from there.

I ditched protools years ago, the ancient code base they've refused to adequately update to a modern standard has makes protools a finicky nightmare if you want a universal/modern cross platform workflow.

Unfortunately avid has a very apple-esqe (proprietary closed ecosystem) mentality, so there's no 'run and gun' way to translate your session files to another DAW completely.

There is AAF/OMF export protocols which some daws support. AAF will retain more information.

Besides that I don't think there is any commercial application that can convert protools sessions (fx, routings, ect)

    I have seen that video:

Maybe there are similar ones or you can use the same way for your DAWs.

Hi, can you explain to me what you mean by "information"? If you just mean your template, you will have to try to recreate it from scratch with Ableton sadly. There are no techniques that I know of for converting PT projects to others from different DAWs.

    You could try AATranslator.

AAX & OMF are your free options, but it's hit and miss - you'd have to try various versions. When lucky, these formats will convert clips, levels and Pan data. No bussing structure.
If your PT is on Mac, you'd also have the issue that old PT versions use the deprecated audio file extension .SD2. You can only convert these to .wav with another (lesser-)old version of PT.

The commercial application that will convert .PTF & .PTX projects to other DAW projectfiles, including busses and project structure is called AA translator, but you need the $200,- enhanced version. I don't know if AA Translator can convert AAX and RTAS plugin data, you''ll have to contact them. They do have a free service to translate one project to see if it can do the job.

Thanks for everyone's input, love this place!

This is the way I might have to do it for free, sure it'll take forever but can be done. Dayum!

Very informative, thank you for the detailed response. The irony is "Pay More Money" to depart from AVID lol. Regardless, I really appreciate the help!!!

You can try OMF export but as they said it is hit or miss some times. A quicker way than the video, consolidate all the tracks, then go to the clips window, select unused, then clear, then delete selected source files. The files left in the audio files folder will be all your consolidated audio files. No need to export or convert unless you are changing bit rate.
