I think the Steinberg's answer to this new format will be as simple as a-b-c: they will integrate all CLAP innovations into their VST3 format, and voilà, bye-bye CLAP! (at least for the commercial audio industry, Libre software lovers will keep on using CLAP on their side)

Same for Avid, they will not compromise their dear aax format for nothing... Vendors like that don't like anything that's 'free' as in 'Freedom'...

If people want open source CLAP format... CLAP will stay... it just proves that steinberg is all about money... and will not get my support... they asked for money (a lot) to vst4free, vstplanet... for the use of "vst" in their domain name... vstplanet closed because of steinberg...

They simply renamed the domain name to Plugins4free.

Not only it is exactly the same page layout... but it is even the same plugin number in the URL.

VST4Free never closed. They just renamed their domain name.

The last tweet mentioning the URL on VST4Free was this one, in February 10, 2021:



Then the immediate next one was this one, nine days later. It now mentions the URL on Plugins4Free:



And as you can see, the sequential number for the plugin database follows correctly: 3337 for the last one added when the website was still named VST4Free, and 3338 for the first new one added when the website is now named Plugins4Free.

But you're right on one thing: the reason why they renamed the website was Steinberg.

And about VSTplanet...
Steinberg BOUGHT VSTplanet.com. Not the assets, but the domain name.

Here are the 22 domain names today owned by Steinberg :

vstplanet.com is the #19.

Many were previous crack or warez websites.
vstplanet.com was not a crack or warez website, but Steinberg imposed the owner of vstplanet to close down his website on August 31st, 2021... and they actually bought the domain name on September 16, 2021, hence they were sure the domain name would never be used again.

But... there is another "vstplanet". It is in Brasil, it is vstplanet.net (not related to vstplanet.com), alive since 2014.

I never said vst4free closed...I said vstplanet.
vst4free had to change its name because of steinberg threat (lawer who wanted vst4free to pay each month to keep the vst4free name).
during 2 months the vst4free.com was redirected to plugins4free.com to let people know about the new website name.
No need to compare anything, it's the same website with the same comments on each vst.

 

When is this supposed to come out of beta?

....what is this. I tried installing some fullbucket stuff and saw after I had installed all the pkg's that they were in "CLAP" format... Well, it rendered logic useless as it never got past the plugin authorization stage and just sat there for 30mins and never loaded up... Is there a benefit to CLAP or is it just some obscure "hey I can make a plugin in this format so I'm just gonna do it" kind of situation?

 

CLAP is in the Linux/Reaper spirit : fanboys speak about it ... so they think ALL PPL should use it
