Do you have presets for reverbs and echoes?

While informing and watching mixing tutorials of Jaycen Joshua for example or anyone, they will show their vocal chain and explain everything indepth, but when it comes to that reverb juice they keep it a secret like "ohh and then, that's just a reverb dadada" and I feel like alot from the vocal presence in the song is because of those effects.

I once started a setup of presets on a track with 1/2, 1/4, 1/8 delays and so on, but I feel like it's more than just that. Ofcourse it always depends on the part and the song, but do you have some good presets and plugins you use for your reverbs and echoes?

I'm a big fan of valhalla and H-Delay. I've used FabFilter Timeless 3 in the past and also Soundtoys EchoBoy. I really want to step up my reverb 'library' of presets now to get a better workflow. Because right now.. it just feels like oooonly testing to get the right one. ofc that's normal to just try and test, but I want to improve and maybe you have some good go-to-settings or experiences to share.

    Cheers

I have certain go-to settings I use. For reggae and dub plucks, I set delays to dotted 1/8 ping pong, typically with a 100 wet mix and 30% feedback. Or 75% if I want the delay to last forever.

For ambient pads, I favor shimmer reverbs with the pitch set at an octave above in a 30/70 wet/dry mix.

Delays are mostly used to accentuate the rhythm or to add a bit of ear candy. Reverbs are for texture and reinforce the atmosphere. You're not missing presets, you're missing experience and taste.

I'd say settle to one delay and one reverb (using multiple instances, of course). Then for each song, try to really identify what's the song about, what it tries to convey and how you can use these effects (multiple instances with different timings) to further accentuate the main idea.

Usually is a very simple train of thought (and simple settings) as you don't want to clutter the mix. For delays, you want to fill the space between notes - but also think if is really necessary, many times it is not. Maybe it makes sense for the song to reverberate the delay (to send away the taps).

For reverbs, you want to enhance the atmosphere. How's the vocal? Quiet and intimate? Go for a smaller space in that verse. Does it gets louder in the chorus? Use a larger space in the chorus. For both, get the timing (decay) perfect for the song (by ear).

There are lots and lots of unique circumstances (therefore pretty hard to collect presets beyond typical delay values and a small room reverb a medium 1s and a large 3s) and you can only get experienced one way: do many many mixes. Once you nail the ability to extract the main idea of the song and you can envision the direction of the mix, you can use several different plugins, for variety, according to your (hopefully now refined) taste.
