so i just want to bring this up....as discussion and also to learn more about it

I see so many people on youtube recording others in public without their permission and uploading for the world to see

is privacy gone as soon you exit your house door? i think many people's lives are changed all of a sudden because a video became popular that in some way shows them in negative light....or positive light which they didn't ask for and all of a sudden need to deal with "fame"

also are there any places where you can't be recorded?
or what are the rights in general?

    thanks

I would suggest you Google this subject instead of asking about it here.
Not that the people here are not helpful, but ...
You are likely to find better answers in the long run.

legally, in america, yes. Technically, anything you can see from a public right of way is not considered private. SO TECHNICALLY if I want to stand on a public sidewalk and film someone walking around in their house, I would be weird and there would be no law stopping me from doing this. Its called freedom

I'm afraid this depends solely on local laws and the exact circumstances.
    For instance this
isn't allowed in my country even if not made public.

i think it's supposed to be legal if you make sure the subject retains their privacy (obscured face, distorted voice, no personal information, etc.)
why are you asking this here?

Well about this I can only say
    [IMG]

There is no right in general.
LAW IS MADE BY THE COUNTRY YOU LIVE IN.
France has a rule that you can't photograph the Eiffel Tower at night (the Lighting is protected Art )
In Germany public persons (Artist, Politician ... ) you can photograph them at home. A normal Person would be a problem. Same person on a protest and it's ok because ... history
(same rule for filming, of course)

So like I said above, Ask a Lawyer.

    complicated

    There are 2(3) exceptions
    1. contemporary history (a few years ago this was stronger, today it's more likely that a court would say privacy is stronger, so no filming )

    2. Recording a crime

    3. In a composition (you're filming something like a park and a person in the background in his house does something, also ok )

But like I said, it's a law nightmare and I hope we can close this topic as fast as possible

Right, but I was speaking about the general law (should've made it more clear, I'll give you that). There are exceptions for almost everything. Punching someone in the face is not allowed, except...
