I should have been more concise when I said "R2R allows for PEBCAC".

PEBCAC = Problem Exists Between Chair And Computer.

 

Oh, I was being a bit (obscenely) tongue-in-cheek, because I thought the PEBCAK thing was more universal (between Chair And Keyboard)! Also, I wasn't disagreeing w/ you; although I tend to use these eqs on real instrument groups - and sometimes (exactly) as you say. But it's sometimes effective on real (solo) instrument inserts? Mainly guit, but sometimes bass. dude >____>

I think it's a bit misleading (Massive) when it has presets for "Kick", for users (me) who (90%) want to dial back drums massively. Not what it's for, at all.

 

I agree - The Manley is traditionally known for its uses in mastering in many circles. I suppose in this century they're trying to gear additional uses in pre-mastering? I could not say for sure but it certainly looks like it.

 

Poor people. They just mistook Passive with Massive because the ad team had a bachelor party the day before. And nobody noticed until the name was registered. Cut those poor drunkards some slack, will ya?!!

 

Massive Passive has a really nice sonic flavour in individual tracks if you mix with saturation. I Agree the eq is kinda severe for a kick drum, but the Manley drive on a kick drum is just killer. Metric Halo Character have options (Massive Passive and Voxbox) for the saturation only, and TR5 SaturatorX also (Class A tube flavour). Give it a try
