I bought the BigTick - Rhino back then because it sounds so good and has so many sound possibilities.
I still like listening to it very much today. Of course, I bought the Big Soundpack by Daniel Maurer.
Rhino 2 is a hybrid FM synthesizer that can use many waveforms and SFZ samples, plus it has an additive generator.

    Review of Big Tick's Rhino

Are Rhino and Tera 3 in active development? Sorry my Internet at my current location is crappy as fuck.

VirSyn Tera is in very active development, yes. They even released an iPad version just a few months ago.

About Rhino, it isn't discontinued. The development stopped years ago when Patrice (Patrice Tarabbia) moved from Toulouse (France) to the USA. But Big Tick Audio continues (in idle) the sales of Rhino and it is probable that the synth will revive in the new company he created a few years ago and which is quite well known: 2getheraudio.

@BlackWinny Feels VirSyn is kinda dead too. Their page has no images and other error and Tera 3
yeah, but Tera wasnt update in a decade, i rocked 3.2.1 in 2006 or so.

Looks like they moved on to iOS plugins only, thats the only thing i found any updates about ...

VirSyn just put up a new website in the past few weeks, essentially saying that desktop development had stopped because of being shackled to the Steinberg eLicenser dongle that nobody liked, and is now dead. So they are apparently finally updating all that stuff.

Doing some installs this week I found my boxed copies of Tera 2 & 3 and Cube 1 & 2.

Rhino will receive an enormous new update, bringing it from the mid 2000' into present times, gui-wise and features-wise. I saw the latest gui, it looks awesome. You can follow up on the KVR BigTick subforum.

Unfortunately, Daniel Mauer's website no longer exists. Please have a look in your mailbox.

Why would you even need updates for them anymore. I guess if they dont work by now, they are not worth to be around anyways. I have fm8 and absynth and i intend on going on using them, but i don't need any updates because they are working just fine. It might be sad if you don't own them already but other than that it is not a real problem i think

FM8 is one of my preferred FM synths (with Dexed and a few others). But there are several things that make me use it less.

Impossible to have a larger GUI, it becomes really tiny now.

Impossible to use it as VST3.

And bugs never fixed in the browser.

The synth itself is perfect and I keep on using it, but these lacks and bugs become really pitiful today. So an update would not be useless. But we know that it will never come. FM8 is a genius product which will append the long, long, long list of genius abandoned products by NI.

Since the first k version I just love ABsynth, and will keep on using it in my compositions for a long, long time... Sounds are spectacular, you can create virtual electronic landscapes...

But thinking about the future, I just bought Plasmonic right now, I think this developer deserves to be supported.
The registration is simple and very fast: a serial number, that is verified online in one second.

Of course, the lack of offline activation could be a real problem for some of us (and for big, pro studios that massively choose to not be connected), I hope they'll end up offering a reg. process similar of Stnberg, ie you can activate your license using a second - connected - device, then transfer the license to your main, dedicated, work machine(s)...

(Note: the license gives you the right to use the plug on 3 comps... like Stnberg)

I guess the registration issue will be an everlasting issue as developers seem to be more interested in securing their product as in delivering a good experience for the user. So i guess it is up to the user to decide whether he wants or needs to use the products that don't work in a way that is acceptable. I think if your software has been cracked, why bother. You can just fall back to a serial number because if people want to use your program they will simply use the cracked version. People that want to use legit software will do that even if there is no protection at all. And people that don't want or simply can't afford to pay for your software will not buy it, they will wait until there is a cracked version.

And if its never cracked (like Plasmonic hasn't been), the developer actually gets to earn his living and eat, and those that choose not to play by the rules simply get assed-out and don't get to play with the toys they don't want to pay for. Once its activated it does jack shit afterwards, if that's too intrusive for some folks, they just need to get away from computers period heh. Windows and MacOS do more phoning home and collecting of your personal data in one day than Plasmonic has ever made in the year or so its been installed here, yet people are freaked out about audio developers making sure their lifelines are secure with a once in awhile check in to validate a license?

Problem with activation is "server down" (and dev down ... of course).

Remember all those Protools PRO users blocked for days for a server down ?
Remember ALL those devs shutting down their activity AND so their auth server ?

It is even WORSE with small devs.
Because Waves is not going to fall tomorrow.

"There is no support for offline activation" (written on Plasmonic website)
No more business, no more auth server, no more synth : you just lost 150 bucks in the toilets

This question is running on the internet for DECADES.

And for decades ppl laugh ... until it happens to them.
Like loosing their Nexus dongle and being told "Buy it again".

Small devs want to eat ?
Me too : i don't want to PAY my hard earned money for something NOT mine

the first Absynth in the Year 2000 v1 was by Rhizomatic Software!

    Date Produced -
    2000 - v1 Rhizomatic Software
    2001 - v1 Native Instruments
    2003 - v2 Native Instruments
    2004 - v3 Native Instruments
    2007 - v4 Native Instruments
    2009 - v5 Native Instruments

    www.vintagesynth.com/misc/absynth.php

Absynth software synthesizer developer Brian Clevinger announces his latest instrument Plasmonic in collaboration with the company Rhizomatic. And this is not only visually a seemingly successful update of the legendary sound generator from Native Instruments. The sound generation is based on a cross between physical modeling and subtractive synthesis. But is that enough to climb the Absynth throne? https://rhizomatic.fr

they remade presets from Absynth and they sound exactly the same. I think that is good enough for me.

No FX version for now, but I'm quite sure the dev will release it one day, because ABSynth was made this way.
