Unless using it for a deliberate 'lo-fi' sound, worse than what happened back in the day!, I have to agree with the fellow members who have also been around pro tape: there are no artifacts I want, and there never were.

Perhaps more important to look into NLS ?
Of which Waves and Harrison are the only two I know of but there must be more...

From almost all plugings we now have 2 or 3 to choose from. Should a great plug-in no longer work, you can use another plug-in without any loss of quality. Everyone can choose what they can handle, ease of use or 4K monitors resizeable. The quality is now very good.

Yes I had no trouble finding Nebula, so I didn't understand what you meant by "a distinct lack of Audio Acustica". Unless you meant that sarcastically? :dunno:
I found my answer in another thread concerning Audio Acustica, which quenched my curiosity! I suppose next time I'll just google instead of asking a simple question expecting a simple answer. That is my mistake
How so? There's many requests for Audio Acustica, when I saw none for Taupe, I figured I was misspelling or using the wrong key-words, it's happened to me before. Especially as this plugin uses different libraries, it's possible that it would be contained in something with a different name. I'm only human after all, I try to double check with others when I can.
I've only asked if I had gotten the name right or missed something along the way. I think you might be misreading my question, not sure how we got here. :wow: In any case I found my answer, which was "no, you didn't miss something, it's not there." :winker: Thanks anyway.

This comment made me so damn happy. I've been playing with tape effects for years and I can barely hear any difference when it's on and when it's off, let alone differences between them.

Which shouldn't be surprising. Back in the day when we used to use tape, I might be able to tell the difference between a £20 cassette player and a decent hi-fi tape, but between two good quality tape machines? They all sounded the same to me -- but then I was generally listening to the music, not the machine that was playing it.

I don’t really use tape sims, well not on the master bus anyway but I always liked Toneboosters Reelbus, although I haven’t used it since the older versions

Have to admit Izotope’s Ozone Tape is really good too. Many to choose from. In the end, tape sound may often just be the cherry on top. But it can make especially digital stuff sound a bit more balanced/organic

The current, improved version of Chow Tape Model is quite good. It can be a bit overwhelming due to the wealth of parameters and variables (the guy who programmed it is a DSP researcher with a Stanford Uni background, but very approachable and responsive person over at the KVR forums). Start with one of the presets and then finetune to your liking.

And of course the recently released Ferric TDS mkII if you just need a good tape compression without all the wobble (Win only though).

Well, Chow Tape, as mentioned already many times is great but I'm not looking for an authentic tape machine vibe either (because why would I? I'm glad I don't have to put up with tape anymore). As an FX, you can get a really lovely fluttery sounds out of it.

I get a lot of mileage out of Iron Oxide 5 by Airwindows, but is it the best? Fuck knows, I use it more of an effect than anything else like Chow.

Yes, but Chow Tape also makes a great tape saturator and tape compressor with the revamped tape compression section in the latest version!

I agree. They always seem exciting and fat at first but then you realize they're destroying everything.
