is there an EQ that allows you to freeze the waveform at a point you want because i'm trying to lower some annoying frequencies and it would be convinient if the eq can do this

Why not cut the waveform at this point, create a new track for it and apply eq then?

Samplitude has object based editing. That means you do not need to create a new track to insert effects.

sorry i don't understand how that would work, the part i'm talking about is like less than a second in duration ro something...so i would not have the time to see anything again if i paste it on another track

i would prefer if the eq plugin can pause and apply eq on it

i mean i thought about taking a screenshot and then finding the points and then applying the eq but just checking if there's an eq that can do this just to be aware of

Well yea there is...... I had the Same issue and now use "Ceiling of Sound" from Ayaic. You can use "Live" Curve generator function and freeze anytime, then use the proper Q setting by zooming in 0 to 100% and simply drag the desired Frequency up or down. Cheers

You could set free Voxengo SPAN to hold the max level: cogwheel -> Type -> MAX. Then you could use any EQ you want. When you hover with the cursor ove a spike, its exact freq is shown in numbers.

I'm not really understanding what you are trying to do. Read up on what a dynamic EQ is (and download/try/use TDR Nova) and see if it answers your question.

Sounds like EQ matching to me. Take a look at this video and see if this is what you mean:

Pro-Q can do this, TDR Nova GE can do this, I'm not sure if the free Nova can match frequency responses..

 

I think what he's looking for is just simply to freeze a frequency analyser for a moment to see what the spectrum looks like at a particular moment, and base his EQ'ing on that.

Although, personally, if I'm removing bad frequencies, I just do what a lot of people do... sweep around with a narrow band EQ in solo and listen, rather than basing it visually.


@petrrr I agree with @No Avenger though, you can just use SPAN or some other analyser with a freeze functionality to view + freeze things, then use whatever EQ your heart desires.

 

Ah! Spectral/EQ-matching. Fabfilter Pro-Q3, TDR SlickEQ M, Eventide EQuivocate, MEqualizer, etc has this. Haven't spotted any free ones (even though the first EQ-match I used back in 1996 in Cubase ought to be free by now . As mentioned above, SPAN would be a good free bet to get your analysis right (at level-matched signals).

 

Ah, now, after reading the thread for the fifth time or so, I finally understood the question. Maybe one should not ask for "freezing the waveform" but rather "freezing the frequency spectrum in an analyzer". A waveform is something very different than what you define as such.

But yeah, MEqualizer as a free eq can do this.

 

Here's how to do it the oldschool way (no special EQ needed):
Find the section on your track where a nasty resonance occurs, loop that section, find the resonance with a bell filter and kill it, then move on.
