    Pics or didn't happen.

Anyway, 300K might not be that much, but the vast majority of people on the planet (close to 99%) will NEVER have access to that kind of money as a head start for building a company. So yeah, turning it into 100+ billion dollars is almost impossible in theory, but ~99% of humanity will never even have the chance to try it. Who knows, if everyone had that opportunity maybe there would be millions of Bezos.

The thing is, most Americans live paycheck to paycheck and could never afford to save that amount of money.
Drug dealing doesn't count, if you'd include criminal activities you might as well have your 300k as counterfeit money.

I misread the thread title and thought it said "Elon Musk Reveals He's A Humanoid Robot At Tesla AI Day."
    That would explain a lot.

OMG, a Bezos sheet of blotter acid would invariably turn out to be a bad trip for any and all to lay tongue on one.

Not yet. Before 1975, most people couldn't afford a computer. That changed in 1976. in the 1980s, they became widespread, and by the 1990s, most family households already had at least one computer.
BTW many people already have household robots at home. Even if it's just a vacuum cleaner.

I agree but the average person in the U.S. will spend a lot more than 300k, it's often a matter of priorities. Not everyone of course.

I know a dude that came from Honduras, illegally, poor as hell and uneducated. Worked hard, lived like crap, spend the bare minimum to survive. 5 years in he was the boss of his own painting crew, that expanded to all around maintenance, plumbing, yard work, ect and he ended up working for a lot of rich people, yet he still lived on the bare minimum. This dude lived with like 5 other illegals in a tiny apartment that they basically used just to sleep and wash up before going back to work. 10 years later dude went back to his country, where he was sending all the money he made, to his own home he had built, on his own rich farming land (coffee among other stuff) to see to his chain of small stores.

He's not worth a 100 billion, but he's rich. I know a few such people with similar stories. I guess it's because my family is pretty mixed and we have various members from different countries and continents.

Anyways, that's a lot to give up and honestly I don't know that I could do something like that myself. But you know, we like our smart phones, an internet connection, our coffees, vapes, cigs, games, streaming services, decent/nice clothing, music gear and or software, yummy foods, perhaps a car, comfortable living situation/our own space, going out to have fun, a few parties, perhaps an expensive education, or maybe we want to start a family, ect. Priorities.

Oh, about that money. I wasn't mine. That person tried to reinvest that money. Somehow he got set up and went to prison. He got greedy. He's long since been out and is walking the straight line. That was 12-15 years ago.

Fair enough, raising a child in a developed country can cost a lot. I've heard years ago it costs around 250K in the US.

    HOWEVER...

That's different than having readily access to that kind of money for an investment. I'm gonna be dramatic, but imagine a kid saying to their parents "mom, dad, I've decided I want all that money you're gonna spend on raising me to start my company", the parents couldn't provide. It's money that will be made over 18 years, not something they have in an account the moment the kid is born (of course there are families who do, but you get my point).

I'm not saying Bezos isn't a gifted business man, obviously turning a 300K investment into hundreds of billions is a HUGE accomplishment, but even if he didn't inherit a multi million family company, he still was extremely privileged, in a way that the vast majority of people will never be.

That Honduran guy, he worked 10 years non stop without having a life so he was rich back at home, where a rich person probably has the net worth of a lower middle class American.

It was 15 years and he's a multimillionaire, by American standards.

Not that it matters. He's living the life he wants. He doesn't live in America, but he does business with Americans. Honduran coffee is a big deal to some.
