yeah, it's basically a snapshot (or impulse as they call it) of that particular sound captured. The only manipulation is to the result of the capture which is some sort of EQ Curve (a little more complex than that ie. dynamically, fluidity etc but basically it is that) where you can further EQ it or do anything you want to the captured result. The EQ though will sound different from the EQ (Tone Stack) at the real amp of course.

It's convolution technology like the convolution reverb uses and yeah those Acoustica plugins.

You're right, if you capture the the amp on hi gain mode, you will only get hi gain and for clean crunch whatever, you need to do separate capture for that. Sometimes with different kind of input level you may get different result with the capture, but rarely it will respond like an amp would.

A good amp sim plugin sometimes has thousands of that captures and with clever programming they can clean up nicely when you lower the input as a real amp would but that's a different story.

Fixed it is in the program folder the installer didn't create a shortcut so just go to Program Files\IK Multimedia\TONEX and locate Tonex.exe then create a shortcut

After much testing standalone and crashing in S1 & Reaper 6 IMHO I'm not impressed. There is a lack of fidelity, like your speaker cab is under a blanket, muffled. Maybe like Amplitube where there always seems to be a comb filtering effect going on and/or aliasing. When compared to current emulator (S-Gear, cabs disabled, Ownhammer dynamic cabs for Nebula N4ZL, they are polls apart for sound and feel.
This is on a par with all others but if you hear and play with the setup mentioned you'll bin this software faster than you can say "sounds like crap"

Agreed, included presets are mostly bad. I found some interesting showing the potential of this plugin. To me it matches the Kemper as seen on some A/B comparisons already on YouTube ! Let's wait for the community to build up and find a way to integrate custom profiles without ToneNet !

After a short test, I think its sounds good. Useable.
But I am disappointed by the interface. 3 pictures of the amp while browsing presets?!? Well this is a new level of waste of screen space.

Thanks Stevie Dude to give us your favorite presets.
I like ToneX but find that presets are close to each other.
I prefer Helix Native for everyday use.

uses a lot more CPU in amplitube, but if you have the cycles go for it.

If I were to buy an ampsim today, almost did like two weeks ago but decided to just go hardware, it would probably be this one. Testing out the "AI Machine Modeling" was satisfying. The differences I heard between the model and my amp was squint my eyes audio nerd level stuff. I don't think anyone else would care at all, assuming they could hear it. I skimmed through some presets too but the variables are many. Overwhelming for me really. I just don't need a thousand + tones. I'm happy with a handful of closely related tones.

As is seemingly the case, the sound/tone/quality of these "captures" will largely depends on the who, how, where, what, and of course your preferences.

I been out of the amp sim loop for a while. Jeez these amp sims have come a long way. I'm impressed.

    Anyways, I already uninstalled it.

One think i noticed is the toneNET user downloads are a lot better, strange i thought, the official Vox Ac30s from IK don't sound much like a vox to me, no chime!. But the User profiles are really there. then i thought about it, the people who upload are actually fans of that amp and know its sound and get the best out of it, rather then just a generic studio engineer who is doing thousands of profiles in a short time.

How are you accessing the tonenet profiles? Do you own a paid Tonex license?

That's the point, people have hit the nail on the head. ToneX, just like Kemper, is only as good as the quality of the capture and the hardware used to capture it with. The difference between real amp and ToneX capture can simply be the loadbox, Everyone knows it does affect tone, then you have quality of cab speakers, mics, preamps, cables. How many have a Royer 121 and Nev 1073? So many variables including the skill and time in capturing clean/crunch/metal tones of the amp/cab in question.
Remember Kemper before the likes of Michael Britt showed up with his profiles? Exactly. It's early days, hopefully a Michael Britt will show up with profiles for ToneX and then it really will be a game change!

I´m surprised that nobody here is commenting the capture process and it´s results as it´s the main purpose of this plugin...
Does it clone exactly your rig? is it fast? are there bugs? which equipment do you need to capture? can you capture a tone from a wav file? etc

just sign up with tonenet and you can access it. Even the free cs version lets you download 20 files. the net one up that costs £99 lets you download unlimited profiles

Anyone using it on Windows 7? IK Product Manager always gets stuck whenever I try to install anything.

I guess you can't do that with the R2R version since you have to block tonenet via hosts file. I might as well buy this as it definitely seems promising tone-wise.
