So today I decided to install a new version of Waves and uninstall my older v12 ones in FL Studio.

Only to realize when I load a majority of the plugins I now get an error message pop up saying "The plugin WaveShell2-VST3 12.0_x64 is missing. Please make sure it was installed correctly."

Now the strange part is it's able to load a few of the plugins that are version 12.7 without issue. However I assumed it was backwards compatible with v12.0 but apparently not..?

The main issue is all my old projects will no longer load the plugins due to this error and that's a big nope for me.

I wanted to ask if anyone has a solution to this problem. Is it possible to install both v12 waves and then a newer v13 on your system without problems? (referring to non-legit versions btw)

Worst case I'd have to go back to using v12 only but I'd love to access some of the newer plugins and updates.

    Any advice appreciated.

Using WAVES plugins in FL Studio

UPDATING? On Windows, WAVES plugins use a single WAVES SHELL plugin, that acts as a container for all WAVES plugins. This means that if you have updated your WAVES plugins, or install a new one, you MUST perform a 'Verify plugins' scan in FL Studio with 'Rescan already verified plugins' selected. This is because the the WAVES SHELL plugin is unchanged and so FL Studio does not know something is new there and won't rescan it to discover your new or updated plugins in the shell.

try open Waves Central. Click the gear in the lower left. Repair. It will take about 10 minutes.

Hi, I did exactly this already and it still doesn't recognize it.

After scanning it shows me the new v13.0 of the exact same plugins and they work fine. But the problem is it doesn't associate it as the v12.0 ones. It's like it's completely separate.

Meaning any older projects using v12.0 still won't load.

I would uninstall Waves completely and either install the Waves version that everything worked with or uninstall it completely and install the latest version again.

You can log in without any problem!
You can also install the latest "Waves Complete v2022.09.12 Incl Emulator-R2R".

    A witch says,
    * No Waves Central installation and account login is required.
    * Simplified and much faster installation / uninstallation.
    * Instrument libraries are not included. Check our other releases.
    * Much faster and more resource friendly with our emulation technology.

This is why I Mix in Studio One. I create a basic mix and do not touch any plugins in FL Studio (especially Waves) for this exact reason :guru:

Number 1 reason why I stopped using Waves plugins! IDK why they keep renaming the shell to the newer version numbers. Just call it Waveshell without the numbers and be done with it. Like Native Instruments did with Kontakt.

that's the problem if you want to load a plugin you have to load waveshell.dll and you will get a list of 600 plugins to choose from I used shell2vst64.exe from an older version of r2r to extract the wavesshell to single plugins you just need to drag the waveshells over the shell2vst64.exe this will extract all plugins then you copy all plugins to a temp folder pick the one u use and copy them back to the waves folder the only problem is you can't extract waveshell.vst3 that way

Yes I have the VST3 one. My fault for not explaining further is that the vst2 I had a patch in a song that I forgot what it was and needed to load vst2 to find out and transfer to vst3.

    Thanks for your help.

    Thanks for the explanation.

If you work with plugins you should save the whole project and also the selected
preset as FXP etc., best in an extra folder like "My important presets" and you
should save the folder extra safe. So you can always restore your work.

Yes I messed up. hate freaking steinberg sometimes. I found a solution was to install R2R version 14 they give the option of installing vst2 and vst3 or just vst2 or vst3. I tried the shell to get the vst plugins extracted from Team VR but it would not work I would get a 5k dll file.

Only down side of saving presets is that vst3 will not load vst2 fxp patches. i am trying to move to vst3 to save my self pain in the future.
