Well, personal preference and research go along way.. I am still in Mountain Lion. Mavericks, I feel, is the slippery slope into the IOS-isizing of what once was a great OS X..
I continue to see important features removed and replaced with Apple-centric features like Cloud-based ideology, and entrances straight into the app store or iTunes store..
Very disappointing. If iTunes and Mavericks (and FCP, Or Logic, Or Shake) is any indication of Apple's future I am already looking into other pro options for my needs.
    Caveat emptor

Me and GhostInTheMachine went from Lion/SL to Mountain Lion. Ive heard of issue with various things with mavericks. Personally i dont 'jump' to apples newest stuff because i seems to be narrowing down many of the features i love to use and have. But im a computer nerd and some of my applications stop being supported in Mavericks. I had a thread about this all a while ago. Im fine with this Mountain Lion update, but WILL NOT move to Mavericks until im forced to do so. Logic X support was the only reason i went from Lion to ML anyways. In other words, i was forced to update.

I agree with Dr. Howard totally. This is exactly what they are doing. OS 11 will be complete integration between IOS and OSX and will slim down on the 'customization' ability of your system. So i believe (look at IOS, you cant custom that more than you could dress up a piece of dog dung). OSX at that time will be a narrow sighted system and i believe many users will stay on older OSs or go to another system (Linux will be the next big one if apple drops the ball, or Google OS).

Sadly this is a trend on the PC side too. Microsoft is unifying the OS with tablet oriented features and Xbox One as well. Every stupid company has a store now and everything is "in the cloud". I don't want to be in the cloud...i fucking hate the cloud, it reminds me of what's that movie...RESIDENT EVIL. In the future more OSes will integrate into it and that is a security risk and a major pain in the ass. You end up spending two hours getting your computer set up so it works how you want it to rather than how they try to push it on you. And in a time when it's already painfully obvious that the government has access to all the data online this is a trend that's more important than ever to change. *yes*

Snow Leopard it is... and Snow Leopard it will be.

Guess I'll be "The Last of the Switchers"

100% agree...yes if shake and FCP are that indication of how apple will treat desktop users, I´d better switch to any kind hybrid as well, preferable something unbundled, fit for purpose.
Back in 2007 with the Shake ´s discontinuity was clear that something weird was happening regarding pro users docked in bounded macs.

I guess that apple macs are a good representation of a type of business strategy, bundling things to the extreme to make incompatible with whatever other competitors might offer.
If that particular software supporting the need of using a mac doesn’t evolve with the demands of the end users , common sense is use that tool which is cheaper, more flexible and easy to customize.

Besides the ideal scenario seems to be the progressive substitution of portable and desktop computing, as we understand today (in some extent a sort of heritage of the idea of the office and the typing machine) in order to move towards to an icloud computing executed by peripherals seamlessly integrated in the every day experience. I imagine that the sensation of working, the working space or even the work protocols might change as well. That will be quite a social experiment as well :grooves:

I also think about that. SL is running fine and smooth on my Hackintosh. No need to Upgrade!

Yeah right, we're doing music after all. You don't need the last piano to be a better player, just practice.
Guess it's easier for some people to spend money rather than work.
Still they lie to themselves, but that's ordinary nowadays, people do that all the time.
