In relativistic terms there isn't a 'before' the Big Bang, since the existence of spacetime is a prerequisite. But you probably knew that.

Anyway, it's hard to describe reality with words. Heck it's even hard to do with mathematics. More so because we just don't know how lots of things actually are, we're just guessing (dark matter, dark energy, quantum entanglement, ...). Scientists can't even be sure we're living in a fundamental reality. For many, God is the easy solution. I respect that.
