I probably should have stated that. You did the good Samaritan thing and circumvented the ugly finds, good on you. :)

It's not forbidden at all. I was genuinely curious. If I was to dislike all of the stuff that I don't find personally useful on the internet, my arms would fall off. If I see something that annoys me sufficiently to make me want to respond to it, then I let people know WHY I found it useless or annoying. Failure to do so is just increasing the noise at the expense of signal.

Edit: Ah. I see further down the thread that you explained why you thought the software was useless. My bad. But given that, I think the dislike is somewhat redundant. YMMV

It wasn't a reference to your pseudonym. It was a reference to the fact that you were issuing a dislike to someone for posting a link to a website that just seemed to be offering tools that improved the standard windows experience. I couldn't (and still can't) fathom what on earth anybody could find to dislike about that. The Bill Gates joke was just because people tend to take it personally when people think their own efforts are being criticized. I didn't really think you were Bill Gates. The rest of your comment is completely incoherent -- presumably because English isn't your first language?

I agree. Defender is a PITA. Much like Edge, it's intrusive and just turning it off is not
a solution as it, as has been stated, just turns itself back on. Also there are better and more well behaved
AV/Malware apps like MalwareBytes that do as they are told. If you use a third party AV app Defender is totally
redundant and a waste of drive space and CPU power. As was also mentioned, a reg hack is the only real way
to kill it dead. Frankly, I didn't find it all that hard to do. And once completed, I exported a .reg Key so that
i can repeat the process on other machines with a single click. Here's link to the hack I used:

https://www.maketecheasier.com/perm...an access it by,to turn off different options.

So I can nuke that real time resource sucking hog, and use something like MalwareBytes on command? Am I reading into this right?

Hmm, I don't see a free version like they have for mac. Maybe I'll just reverse the process to enable Defender once a month or something. Just for maintenance sake. It's not like I'm surfing random sites downloading things. Really I just need to run an occasional scan for peace of mind.

I think I'm going to give TinyWall a go. Non-intrusive sounds good. I'm using NetLimiter 4 right now and it can be annoying annoying, still, after months of making rules.
