It's funny I missed them. Gonna load them immediately. Spectral, Octopus (and Morphox) are among my preferred synths ever.

    Ha Ha!
    And yet... 62 years old.
    But remained childlike in spirit.

In addition to my previous post two hours ago, I just uploaded on my webspace all the synths that Ocean Swift (in the list above) made generously freeware just before closing the door and closing their website. It's here.

I actually bought it to support the development of the very cool synth but have not yet been able to install it for that very reason. I use the demo with it's restrictions and must wait until I buy a new shiny computer before I start installing my older stuff.

well when your whole marketing strategy is geared toward people who have no originality and make clone music with NI's masisve library of preset packs and genre libraries... of course these people aren't gonna want to spend money on something where they have to actually CREATE music with awesome creative synths like absynth. Trazor needs to get on this... I cant use THE LEGIT COPY I ACTUALLY PURCHASED CUZ NI is fucking lame bullshit garbage for clones now, when it was top dawg in the innovation realm

NI drop software AND hardware like socks.

    Remember Kore mess ?
    I do ...

Like i said earlier, ANYTHING software related is going to ZERO.
Even worse with HARDWARE integrated to software.

It is up to YOU to think if it is the right choice or not.
But dont speak about "investment" in software : it is NEVER going to happen

I seen a good example recently : Quad Cortex.
You NEED their cloud to upload AND back to QC

    Their cloud is gone ?
Your QC will stay in the same state forever

Yes, you bought a 2000 bucks device and are chained FOREVER on their cloud (to manage their third party sells).
They learned from Kemper experience ... and created a worst situation.

QC is a gigantic 2000 bucks dongle

I am afraid this poor man might take his own life by the end of the week. He seems really bummed out. Don't do it Brian! You are loved very much.

    R.I.P. Absynth

Hopefully not R.I.P. Brian (there is still much to live for)

No more Absynth? makes sense since everything NI puts out could be named, Abscess.

They need more resources to keep releasing their stupid 'expansion packs' such as Celeb Step & Thirst Trap.

Only a few things after reading.... my two cents worth...
    • Absynth is still one of the warmer digital synths out there and certainly not lacking in versatility for what it is. It is great still for ethereal new age music.
    • It lasted 22 years. In pure hardware form the only hardware quickly I can think of that beats it for longevity is the mini-moog and that had to be re-released as it was not available for some time. I could be wrong and I am ok with that.
    • The GUI is not smaller, our resolutions with monitor changes, GPU and computer upgrades are bigger. 1920 as a standard base resolution and higher was an afterthought goal in 2000 and was inevitable. I do agree he possibly should have adapted to it.
    • Theoretically someone either has or will likely take the banks and turn them into KONTAKT samples at some point I imagine.
    Reiterating, only my opinions..

I totally agree for the first three points.
For the fourth I'm not sure that it would be a good decision. First because it will never give the same pleasure neither the same infinite possibilities than this incredible synth which is not a simple subtractive synth, and secondly because I've always found crazy to "emulate" synths with samples. Acoustic instruments yes of course, as long as the physical modelling is not satisfying samples are the best (and only) way to make music with acoustic instruments on a computer, but also because the price of the Gigabytes will never drop and samples are extremely expensive in term of storage. Why limit the pleasure by using of samples of synths (and with tons of Gb) when it is so much better to use the real synthesis with not more than a few Mb and 100 times more possibilities to create original sounds? But don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing, I'm just wondering about the relevance of these choices.

Now that NI has dropped Absynth I'm pretty sure that another company will develop a new product based on the same concept. And perhaps Brian Clevinger himself if not another.

Crystal is one of the synths I love, even with its GUI now small as a postage stamp. So I use it now on a second monitor with a resolution at 1280 px that I have dedicated to such small GUIs. Crystal is included in the freeware collection I'm currently writing.
Who knows here that Glenn Olander, the developer of Crystal, became then lead developer at Spectrasonics and was the main guy behind Stylus, Omnisphere and Trilian?

Tera is a synth that many musicians seem to have forgotten, it's very underrated now. I don't understand why VirSyn doesn't make a big hype on it's version 3, especially knowing the discontinuation of Absynth.

Rhino and Zebra are great synths, yes, but I think that I wouldn't place them in the same category than Absynth. Rhino would be rather a replacement for FM8, and Zebra for Reaktor...
    :)
