DSP56300 won't open TI presets fully. It works with C and B roms, emulate B and C, opens only presets made with B and C. It means it will try to open TI presets, but without TI features and advantages, like hypersaw etc. And presets will sound shitty.

Imagine hardware Virus C with VirusTIpreset support - it would be the same shit without TI features. I even think same behaviour.

Kamui presets - listen to Soundbanks on youtube. Now play it with emu or Virus C - everything is identical.

Viper still lacks something. It is too close, but not identical matching as dsp56300.

No reasons to compare Viper (the most closest sonic emulation of modern TI) vs DSP56300 (full Motorola DSP code from Virus hardware running old B/C roms).

This WIP Track, is fully ITB, the only synth used was the Usual Suspects Virus DSP Release (using the Virus XL 6.5 Rom). This was using v 1.24 and beleive it or not on a 2nd gen i5!! (lots of commiting to audio but every patch played is as it was heard in realtime.

I just scanned the url in virustotal and bitdfender flagged it for a virus, it is 100% not a virus not unless ableton spits out malware ridden mp3 encodes when rendering

I think its kinda cool that an link to an mp3 using only the virus c , and the first real 1;1 dsp. flags as a virus, how fitting heheh.

I still use Viper for new sounds as I prefer the GUI and the extra features, but I use the emulator for old presets.

Literally the same argument could be used against Viper or any software synth.

 

Yeah and when stacking a lot of parts, layers, often best not to go crazy on the voice count anyway I find. YMMV of course.

 

How does one load a virus TI patch using the DSP56300?

 

Using presets could be the main reason why some people use the dsp56300...
Between purchased and downloaded, I have at least 150 to 200 virus b/c soundbanks. Regarding the TI (which I also own), there are over 100 soundbanks.
Around 250 soundbanks with 100 or 120 patches, people will have at their disposal over 20'000 fantastic patches, made by the top best sound designers. Epic, dreamy crystal pads, amazing pluck arpeggios... ultra deep basses...amazing bells, etc etc... with literally thousands of basses, thousands of pads, thousands of plucks, etc, most users should find hundreds of super usable patches, well before they need to create a unique patch from scratch...
Anyway, most people are still in shock, when they launch the plug-in that let them have a 100% perfect working clone of the virus hardware. It's really hard to believe it actually exists !
20 years ago, if someone had told us 'you know, one day, some guys will be able to emulate the hardware/dsp chip, and you will be able to run the full virus a/b/c on your computer, like a regular virtual instrument", we would laugh 24 hours without stopping !...

 

And the DSP56300 emulator is free...!
