My studio chair broke and I need something ergonomic and comfortable that I can work in for hours on end (doing Pro Tools). Any advice out there as to brand, price and all of that? Thanks!

Been rocking an Aeron for years, one of the best investments I ever made.

You can safely buy second hand if you prefer - their build quality is bombproof, and they're a completely modular design, so even if something on it wears out, you can just buy a replacement part.

Make sure you buy the right size (there's 3) for your height/build.

Over the pandemic I had to upgrade my studio chair because I work from home and spend the majority of my day behind a desk. Ive also been a power-lifter some 30+ years so my back has taken quite a beating and I really needed a chair that would provide great support. I settled on this chair (which Ive had for about a year and half now) after rave reviews from none other than a shit ton of IT guys who also spend the majority of their lives behind a desk. Figured if it was good enough for them, it should be great for me. I couldn't have made a better purchase and I'd happily spend twice as much on it because the build quality is top notch and it is incredibly comfortable:

Thank you for all the great advice. I was a pole vaulter in school, so I can relate to your back pain. So, I pulled the trigger since there were Labor Day sales. I just brought home and assembled from Office Depot a WorkPro 1000. It is normally $319, but was $119 on sale today. It has excellent lumbar support and I can control the depth of the seat, sliding the seat closer to or further forward from the backrest, which is pretty cool adjustment. https://www.officedepot.com/a/produ...VhObjBx33YwjyEAAYASAAEgJ0bPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Like someone said above, if you have the money, and you care about your health, buy any Herman Miller chair, but I highly recommend their Embody model as it is designed for the very purpose of fixing your posture and minimizing the harm done after hours of sitting. This is not a luxury item, it's an invesment for your health.

And no, there are no chairs that come close to Herman Miller health-focused chairs. Not for less of 500$. It is what it is, but your chair, especially when your job requires hours and hours of sitting, should be taken seriously because your spine is going to suffer the consequences on the long-term if you don't choose one that adapts to your needs.

Not to mention that the Herman Miller Aeron chair (if not all of their product line) comes with a choice of casters for either hardwood or carpet.

Wanting to try before buying, I went to an office furniture warehouse in the industrial part of town.
I spent 3 hours sitting in chairs to see if they made my back hurt.
The salesman kept coming back and asking if I'd made up my mind.
The one I liked I spent 2 hours in before buying and my back still didn't hurt so I bought it.
I'm sitting in it now. Was expecting to pay more but it was only $239.00 Cdn.

Do you mind if I ask where you purchased your new chair. Probably wasn't Staples right?

I know you already found your answer, but just wanted to say I've owned this same chair for what must be like 10 years now: https://www.staples.ca/products/990119-en-flexfit-hyken-mesh-task-chair-with-adjustable-arms-black

I recommended it to the wife, and she likes it. Also a friend of mine bought one too. I used to have a lot of back/arm/leg/etc. problems, and this chair has helped with that. I've never owned a PC chair for this long. I am in it a lot too, as I work from home right now.

It's a lot cheaper than a Herman Miller, but actually is good quality, IMO.

She's a beauty and at a fraction of the price of the HM. Nice find.

it's worth trying the chair before buy, and also after buy, within return period,
I got new chair half year ago - DxRacer Iron series, and it's perfect - its dimensions aren't for everyone though

As others have said, Herman Miller's Aeron is a healthy chair, worth the extra money for the faact you take care of your body. A valid alternative equally healthy come from the Humanscale company, such as the Liberty chair and the Freedom chair. Either of these companies chairs will last a guaranteed lifetime, and you can sit from dawn to dusk without doing any harm, and this is noticeable in the absence of feeling any pain / discomfort and needing to get up. Even after hours and hours. Secondhand so they are a reasonable price.

Just don't get a gamer/racing chair. They don't have proper support you'll get sore.

You want something that has the lower back push into you a bit. In my experience i get a sore back if it doesn't have that. A decent amount of cushioning on the armrests is pretty important too, my arms are resting on those pretty much the whole time i'm at my computer, and if are too hard you lose circulation in your arms haha. Also, if you're a lounge king like me you'll want the seat to have a decent amount of depth so that you can lift a leg up and sit your foot up on the seat while you lean back. But not tooooo much depth to where it's longer than your upper legs (otherwise it pushes up into your knees and you lose circulation in your legs).

I bought my chair for like $30 off facebook marketplace and i love it. If you know what you want you don't need to spend big bucks on a Herman Miller imo. The biggest thing is the lower back support as well as support for your neck / upper back for when you wanna lean back (so you don't have to hold your head up and have your weight get held in your lower back. It doesn't have to be some fancy material, it just has to be durable and last for years

been using the that Ikea chair for 2014-2020 before I switched to gaming chair and it feels like a lot of improvement and can sit even longer before feeling like shit. It even has hot-swap parts.
