If I remember correctly, it has to do with hardware buffer setting. Try changing the buffer on your interface to something higher like 256, 512 or 1024. Then reboot your computer. If that doesn't work, post here again.

This error simply means, Pro Tools fail to establish a connection with your audio interface. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your audio interface. Failing that try asio4all drivers.

Try pushing the N-key (once) when you open PT, hold it down till it's fully started up.
This will give a dialog where you can switch audio device and buffer setting.

PTHD 'steals' the current audiodevice connection, so you shouldn't run any other software that uses audio
(not even a browser) when you start PT.

If its a focusrite interface, you will need to follow their instructions on their (focusrites) page. It involves ASIO4All and starting PT a certain way. Once completed, all works fine.

After you click on Protools to start, hold down :CTRL N. That will get PT started. Then select on Focusrite on the playback engine screen.

Uninstall PT, and Scarlett drivers and do a registry clean. Install ASIO4All. Reinstall ProTools. Run Protools and let it find your ASIO4All. Then install the Focusrite drivers. Restart Protools and reassign the outout from ASIO4All to the Focusrite. All should work fine then!

Try disabling all Focusrite input/output devices in control panel > Sounds so Windows does not try to use them as it’s main sound card then reboot and try PT.

    This worked for me:
    1. Uninstall Pro Tools
    2. Delete all Pro Tools installation files.
    3. Install Reaper
    4. Enjoy!

Sorry, couldn't resist! Honestly, I would try fiddling with different versions of your drivers. Maybe try an older driver.
