Does Spotify lock out premium users, too?
In the past years I have sometimes used these 3rd-party apps on mac and it has never locked me out.
However, the e-mail address I registered for Spotify is receiving mostly Russian spams since then. This email account I have never used for anything else.
Also after using these apps, sometimes I have received alert from Spotify about suspicious logins from around the World, I remember Turkey and some poor countries from Southeast Asia.

And why we sometimes want to rip music from Spotify? For example, I should have done it with my whole playlist (unfortunately, I haven't) because time to time Spotify disables songs that had been available previously. Sometimes it comes back after a few months, more often it never let listen to it again.
If you downloaded songs in Spotify app, it doesn't save you from that greying out phenomenon.

Imagine if they locked your stereo's tape mechanism for ripping songs from the radio back in the 80s/90s.

using spotify, in any way shape or form, is like slapping your bandmates in the face and stealing food from their fridge. just sayin.

but yes, any way shape or form of stealing from daniel ek is very much encouraged as far as I am concerned! ;)

Yes, definitely. Because of violating terms of use.

You might have been lucky or those apps were able to fake "user agent" data somehow.

Yeah, blame this on those 3rd-party apps. Went through something similar in the past.

Still violating terms of use, though. In fact, that's the downside of all those streaming licence models: there is no lifetime access to the stuff you pay for on a rental basis.

That's why tapes were more expensive than they could have been.

i saw the spotify tends to block the account when you use a higher conversion speed (like 2x, instead of 1x)

Yeah, it happened to my premium account. If I remember it correctly, the reason was "unauthorized copying". Thankfully, I got my account back the next day after contacting their automated customer service.

I had the same issue using Audial to rip some tracks (mostly so I can listen them in my car), but still can't regain access to my account, which is problematic as it was also linked to the few artist profil I manage (always add a back up

Did you do anything in particular to unlock it ? I contact them and never had any answer. For now I'm using a new account for listening, but can't add a new manager profil to those artist page

For downloading from streaming now I use free-mp3-download.net, it give the posssibility to download FLAC version. I check the quality from time to time and it seems to be real flac (but it still using streaming as a source I think, cause I got some track that are brand new on stream right after midnight the day of their release)

That's not what has been discussed here, I think. Why would anyone do that?

What do you mean? What's the severeness on what music I listen to? I don't see it as a sensitive data. It's not even what videos you watch on the web? (however, now you can already watch podcasts on Spotify) And it's not like Alexa, Google or Facebook that constantly listens to you through the mic of your devices nearby.

I've never used Spotify. It's just a data mining honey pot that uses music to trick people into thinking it's a music platform. Nobody makes money on those sites anyways. I dig Bandcamp but it got bought out a few months ago, so we'll see.

Maybe it's time to switch to Deezer/TIDAL, since downloads are more reliable from them.

in TIDAL many songs sound awfully dizzy. As if it was a very low bitrate.
I tested it during the one month free trial, really wanted to replace my Spotify plan, due to the higher (stated) bitrate and the family plan had a better price in my region than on Spotify. But the sound quality issue has happened on all platforms I tried (mac, android phone, android tv).

Hmm... I have recorded Spotify a couple of times in Reaper by using the loopback function on my RME interface and I've never had any problems. Didn't even know that Spotify somehow can see this. Kinda seems improbable for them to be able to see that I have loopback enabled on my interface, but I'm no expert.

If you can find album/artist you want somewhere else, deezer, tidal, qobuz can provide you flac file.

Spotify has many rules that it requires you to follow. Sometimes, the system blocks your account by mistake due to spotify playlist placement and you need to ask for help. I had a few attempts to block my account, but I managed to get it reinstated through technical support.

I had the same problem. I messaged to Spotify and they told me not to do it again so that they would give my account back. Now I use a streaming audio recorder. It captures anything you hear from your speakers. I play the song from Spotify and record it. Yeah, a little bit annoying but it helps.

I had spotify premium for years and recorded a few things from it (real time). I even had a modded client for a while. Never had any issues with them locking or banning. However I got tired of the same old 256k compression and went looking for a higher quality alternative to spottie. I was not intent on paying much more than 10$ @Mo. I happened to land on qobuz. Their library is almost as large if not larger than spottie, but the value add is that for about 2$ more @month you can stream as much 16bit/44k audio as you want. They are VPN friendly where not all of these services are. Made certain of that before going in... There is also 24bit/96k rez as well that they have available for a lot of the content. There is an even higher rez plan that they have available for more $$ @month but for my purpose the base plan is good enough. I have recorded quite a bit of stuff off there for the music collection since going to it and left spotify altogether. And NO. I do not work for, nor am I associated with, qobuz in any way other than ripping better than cd quality tracks for archive to FLAC. I was skeptical at first but they do deliver full 16bit/44k or 24bit/96k streams that are verified as the resolutions they advert.
