That indispensable plugin that has many good presets in different categories (bass, keys, lead, pad, ...) that you use to set the foundations of any new project you're working on.

It might not be so popular, but I've been using the Korg Triton plugin lately as a starting point. It helps me come with some good ideas while not demanding a lot from my pc resources.

    Instruments?
    ADD2, AME, Heavier7Strings, Modo Bass.

But I'm not using presets to get better at crafting sounds.

Also a big fan of MODO Bass, version 2 made me a believer.

ReaSample is apparently my most used instrument .. but that's only because I use it for snare & kick samples .

Other than that: Kontakt (Hammersmith Piano, Isolation Piano, Shreddage 3 Hydra, DrumMic'a), Vital, Surge XT, RealLPC, Soundpaint (1928 Steinway)

Fab Filter Pro Q3- hands down the best sounding EQ ever and it does so much more!

.... I will see myself out now, I don't have enough caffeine in me for decent meta level trolling. scaler2 is the largest constant for me, on my default template. I

Serum, Spire, Omnisphere mostly for Drum & Bass and other electronic stuff
I like Modo Bass & Addictive Drums or EZ Drummer, maybe Addictive Keys or whatever Piano plugin sounds best for the track for rock etc

Depending on the project, my usual go-to's are Synapse Audio Dune 3 and Slate+Ash Landforms (Kontakt).

Superior Drummer and Fabfilter ProQ3 , I could make music with that alone.

I do mostly electronic music, and the closest thing I have to a go to VSTi would be Serum.

If I was stranded on a desert island with only Reaktor I wouldn't even care. It's so often overlooked because it takes a lot of time and effort to get anywhere with it. But you don't even have to build your own ensembles. There are hundreds if not thousands of free ensembles in the User Library that could easily be sold at a premium. (Btw- if you get reaktor from the sister site you can still get all these ensembles for free. Just need an account.)

ECCENTRIX le OSCILLATORIX - I am still blown away by this FM beast 13 years later. You see comments mentioning it sounds like hardware, they're not exaggerating. It sounds incredible. Pads, basses, leads, noise FX, it's all here. Add your own reverb and compression and you have something truly special.

Continuum Synth - morphing wavetable FM synth. Compliments ECCENTRIX really well. You could make an album with just these two.

Clank - drum/noise synth. Another one that sounds like hardware. Super versatile, randomize button is great with this.

PolyComb - extremely versatile additive synth.

Solar Loop Echo - fun take on the Space Echo. You can get lots of weirdness out of this one and it has one of the nicest sounding octavers I've ever heard.

Spectra Morph - incredible multi-effects processor. Not the most user-friendly ensemble, but if you spend some time with it you will be rewarded.

I'm out of time for now already but hopefully someone finds this useful. These are just a few lesser-known gems out of hundreds. If anyone has any specific requests for an instrument/effect/sequencer/generator let me know. I've spent dozens of hours combing through the User Library over the past decade and there are so many more amazing ensembles in there.

If you want to do some more exploring, type any of these names into the search bar and try whatever catches your attention. They have all made incredible contributions over the years: Dieter Zobel, rachMiel/rick scott, Arachnaut, Brett, Cal Scott, Paule.

Again, these are just a few builders out of dozens who probably could be getting paid for everything they've done.

One more thing: set the kHz as high as your rig can handle. I try to keep everything at least at 88.2/96. Some of these really benefit from oversampling.
