Hi. Have you got any advice how to buy a tabletop decent multi drum pads unit eg. Yamaha DTX Multi Pad or Alesis Strike? It would be used especially with DAW as a MIDI trigger. So it doesn’t need to be very rich in features. But it should be sensitive for playing with hands and sticks. Thanks.

I have just seen on ebay Avatar PD705 drum pad and Carsbro Okto. Has anybody kept hands on them? I read reviews about two models of Alesis. They have problem with cross talk.

Hi @nmkeraj, here are a few tests and links:

    Yamaha DTX-Multi 12 Test
The Yamaha DTX-Multi 12 can really wear its "Multi" in the product name with a clear conscience: It is a very universal device for drummers, because with it you have playing surfaces, ROM sound generator, sample player, sequencer, MIDI/USB switching center and even trigger-to-MIDI converter in one handy box. Whether used just for bass drum underpinning with sub bass, firing off single effect sounds, replacing a whole fleet of shakers, mini splashes and other gizmos, whether used as a playback sequencer, notepad, as a controller for other musicians' effects units, whether used as a complete drum replacement or sometimes just as a click: The device can do it!

Soundwise it is well equipped, but as expected no high-flyer. Therefore, the possibility to integrate your own samples comes in handy. If it were a little cheaper and the fear of many drummers with such systems a little less, the DTX could be a real triumph. For the power users, I would wish for an even deeper MIDI implementation, which will possibly be added with an OS update. Important: If you plan to play the system a lot with your hand instead of sticks, as advertised, you should definitely check beforehand if you can handle the trigger threshold, which is a bit too high for my liking.

Pro: - reliably covers a wide range of tasks, - Understandable operating concept
Contra: - MIDI implementation with slight weaknesses, - sensitivity of pads for "finger" mode not high enough

Not a drum pad, but I have an Alesis Nitro Mesh Kit. It is definitely not the best ekit, but it is the best bargain. I got mine for like $300 USD. I tossed out the POS kick drum and pedal it came with and replaced it with an iron cobra pedal and a Roland KD7 kick pad. I had to set the pedal up.... backwards. sort of. But it works and feels like a real kick. The drum pads are excellent- if you tighten them up just right, your sticks bounce back just like they do with real drums. The cymbals are pretty shit though. They only have one zone, so they can't differentiate between the bell, bow, and edge. The hihats are especially shit for the same reason, can't differentiate between when you hit them with the tip vs the shaft of the stick. Anyways, it's a great tool to use with superior drummer. Better than tapping with fingers on some garbage pads that will stop working after a month, and probably cheaper than most proper drum pads.
