For this price it's a great deal. It's probably the most full featured FM synth out there.

I've been using it from day 0, as I was a FM7 user. You know the drill, sharp and thumping basses, glassy and icy pads, all sorts of electric pianos and crazy FX. Muy digital of course, though this one can do weirder tricks than most like unstable FM oscs for all kinds of fuzzy tones.

 

All the huge sysex compilation I made for Dexed (in the middle of the developer's page, at the section "Cartridge Manager") is compatible with FM8 (FM8 will make automatically the conversion to its own format).

Dexed is closer to the DX7 than FM8, but FM8 has many, many features which were not in the DX7 (waveforms of the operators, filters, LFOs, two special operators, support of joystick, morphing between up to 4 presets loaded in memory, etc. etc. etc.) So both are really great to use. Like phumb-reh above I'm a very old user of FM8... and I had a DX7 at the end of the 80's.
