I got an email from UAD about their software spark and they the plugins Brigade chorus was now available to download free.

I am wondering, if they are going to do this for all plugins that people got free with their Apollo Twin MK2

Like Ampeg, oxide tape etc...

Would we have to subscribe to use those or would they be free to us seeing as we already have and use them?

 

If you already own the UAD version, you get the Spark version free.

If not, you have to buy it (or subscribe).

They could if they wanted, but probably doesn't mean they "have to" either. The hardware owners couldn't complain about someone else getting something for free from them, when they didn't pay for it either.

Some of the Focusrite/Novation free things have been a similar kind of thing.

 

I think the best thing to do is to ask them

 

The exact response you’ll receive is “There is nothing to announce at this time”

The Spark section on UA’s site covers all the available plugins - they’ve made it clear that they’re not pre-announcing future releases.

Also, not sure if you’re aware (or if it affects you), but Spark is currently MacOS-only, with Windows support coming in a month or two - as is usually the story with anything new UA

As for the purchase/ownership question - I’ve already answered that for you above.

I own several UAD interfaces/satellites, and have been using Spark since it released, and it’s a really handy addition to the ecosystem. Obvs you still need hardware if you’re tracking through plugins and want super low latency, but having the option to add a mix of dsp and native plugins at mix time is really handy.
