I don't think there is much difference. I'm guessing Studio One probably uses a little less.

    System Requirements:
    Studio One = Intel® Core™ i3 / AMD A10 Prozessor or better
    Cubase 12 = Intel® Core™ i5 (4. Generation) oder AMD Ryzen™

in my experience S1 fares a little better but that also depends on which plugins you use. Regardless, if you are concerned by CPU usage...the good answer is neither, what you need is Reaper

outdated list . . . studio one in the last versions are very optimized.
Using here nuendo, with only stock plugins works fine.
in older machines with older instructions in proccesors the result is not always the same, ableton is nice on cpu with a i5 or i7 with ssd but in a older due core with HDD, is not nice and runs better others daw like cubase, studio one or samplitude.
with big graphics , 4k monitor, etc . . . graphic card and a good setup in card is important too

    I Have
    HP Laptop Win 10 With Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7500U CPU @ 2.70GHz 2.90 GHz with SSD Drive
    RAM 16.0 GB

Main DAW Studio One 5 Its been a CPU Hog Not Running That Many Tracks of VSTi/VST Plugins.

    May Switch To Reaper..

    Thought?

That wasn't exactly why I (as a mod) asked him. However, thanks for the links.

I leave my opinion, although I would not take it very seriously, since I have tried by ear, I never noticed the processor. I always pay attention more than anything, how the Daw responds to me In my opinion, Cubase 12 takes more CPU than Studio one 5. Maybe if you just use Cubase Daw without putting any Vst, it won't be noticeable, but as you load vst, the difference is very noticeable (at least for me) With Studio one.

Your issue with CPU usage with the plugins you mention, is going to be mostly due to the actual VST plugins and not the VST host.
A smaller "lighter" daw will occupy more/less RAM certainly, but CPU usage differences will be comparatively negligible.

The +/- 10% difference you would notice across DAWs is really insignificant in this day and age.
Invest in a powerful PC and choose the DAW that you want to use.

i7 i9 amd M1 cpu here on macOS, Cubase since v10 is vey sensible cpu eating compared to S1. Legitimate ownership speaking.

I don't see why heavy plugin users do not just bounce to audio, leave the midi/plugin disabled and keep working around the bounce until much later in the creation of the track. You CPU/RAM offload the plugin, but continue having the part play within context; while also avoid committing to a final bounce by actually deleting the channel/instance. Bounce or freeze; but making a decision about a different daw software rather than using a little common sense production tactics is nuts in 2022.

This can also reduce your render times.
