That’s what they want big fat sausages with all transients cuts and all the dynamic range gone . That’s why I send over two versions to show loudness isn’t always key a -12lufs isn’t causing any loudness wars with digital conversions on sites like Spotify , tidal, YouTube so on and always have a louder version for playing in clubs a key thing a lot of these producers forget us DJs do have a gain knob on the mixer lol I personally find a quieter master can be pushed harder and louder when played out than a slammed to the floor track . another new thing I learned was normalisation of tracks is only on mobile devices and there is the option to turn off on streaming sites . Which then brings back the loudness war

Where do you get off calling yourself an idiot? Don't devalue yourself and delete the word idiot from your vocabulary.
I am O.K. - You are O.K. and nobody is perfect, probably because we are humans and not robots.

Back to the topic, if it's too quiet, buy bigger monitors or turn your monitors up a bit. Take frequent breaks and go for a walk.
Read articles on the Internet about the Loudness War.

I use: Brainworx - VSC-2 8, Brainworx - Masterdesk, SSL - Stereo Bus Compressor and Brainworx - BX Limiter.

That's cool! What loudness were you able to achieve with each of them? On what settings? How did you measure distortion? Care to add TDR Limiter 6, Newfangled Elevate and sonible smart:Limit to your proving ground?

Now i'm a bit confused. Because it started talking about Maximizers, and I see many that mention limiters. From what I understand, they are not the same thing, right?

appreciated the effort you put into testing all those @9000k :mates:

I think Clippers work great as Maximizers, maybe even better than Limiters - assuming modern music is not supposed to sound too clean anyway

There are two views on this:
    1) Maximizer is a waveshaping multi-FX where the actual limiter is only a part of the chain. Emerged fairly recently.
    2) Maximizer is a limiter which boosts signal into a 0dB threshold instead of lowering said threshold and then upping the output. So it's just a workflow difference.
Historically, "maximizer" is a marketing speech akin to "paragraphic EQ". Pick your side.

Many roads lead to Rome! When you hear a song on the radio, no one will be able
to trace how the song was created and what plugins the recording engineer used.

My opinion: A maximizer = maximized and a limiter = limited.
In other words, if the sound is too thin and powerless I use a maximizer and if peaks go above 0dB I use the limiter.

For a while now I'm considering buying AOM Invisible Limiter (not the G2 or G3). It has great reviews, I see it in a lot of tutorials, it's easy in use and does what it needs to do. However, the problem with AOM is, no license transfer. And for over a € 100, that's not something I prefer. With other words, you can't get it cheaper second-hand and you can't sell it, if you find a better alternative at one point.

Now, IK Stealth Limiter turns out to be one of those alternative options so it seems. That makes me wondering if I still need to go for the AOM one. Stealth is also second-hand available for cheaper prices at the moment. So that would be helpful.

That said, I already have Pro-L2 and Ozone Maximizer. The first one, I only use for taiming peaks on individual or group channels. The second one, well, I'm still not convinced. Also, I bought Ozone 9 for other parts mostly, so I never really cared tbh.

Anyway, willl now read some more reviews about Stealth.

How do you deal with grain-distortion in the midrange I described in the first post?

The god particle is the "dumbest" way to get things loud, any average mix will hit -9 LUF'S easily with -2 db of GR. But it's not a flexible limiter, and it will introduce some artifacts if you push it too hard. StandartClip + Stealth Limiter is my clean chain to hit max loudness. StandardClip will make things go easy on limiter, and StealthLimiter needs to be pushed to extremes to introduce artifacts (in general i only experience the loss of transients and dynamic range, but no strange noises)

The OP's findings through his tests and shared here is just fun stats, yerp good to know and is just that.

It it not that hard if we just stack up 12 free stupidest Limiter plugin ever with each doing 2-3db GR. There you go, loudness with minimal artifact and distortion. Why use 1 when you can easily use 12 ? It may sound not practical but so does pushing one limiter beyond its limit. Same thing.

just don't over use it, that's why i use it in different stages. i think its also part of how your track is mixed. the cleaner the mix, the louder you can get with both tools. the muddier it is, it starts to distort earlier. that's what i found out on my tracks.
