Gave the Th-U iRig & Nebula Ownhammer combo a go. Wow! amazing tones & feel available, swore I have a real cab mic'd up in another room, makes celestion speakerMix pro redundant. Thanks for the heads up ;-)

True that. To be more precise, Acustica has buried under loads of patents their Volterra kernel technology which can also be called non-linear convolution. Calling it dynamic as we just saw is confusing. Acustica products themselves use several input levels to replicate the changes when changing input signal loudness. Patents are a bitch, this is an especially cruel case.

That doesn't mean you can't develop non-linear algorithms for cabs or other stuff, but not using Nebula's technology.
You're right. Because IRs work like a "full-digital FIR equalizer" there is a limitation on the accuracy of the lowest end.

Meaning the first frequencies you can EQ are separated by long intervals. I'm making this up, say 40 Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz. It looks like a polygon until you reach 500-1000Hz depending of the IRs length.
Many IR packs have long versions of the same impulse because this helps on the accuracy.
It's a bit confusing tbh. Well, no, it's a freaking lot confusing :rofl:

Here are new DIRECT mono links (because ... it is mono guitar )
PS : i clearly hear dynamic and "cab resonance" on Nebula one

NN1 sounds brighter and pumpier. But I'm confused, are the impulses different files or is it the same file running with a different setting in Nebula?

If you test any IR pack from Ownhammer, Redwirez etc you will notice despite claims of cab, mic, Neve pre etc, there is zero harmonic content. Even in Th-U iRig and Supercabinet, S-Gear, IR's have also zero harmonic content. Pure clean IR's. With Celestion Speakercab Pro and Nebula Ownhammer they are stocked with loads of harmonics. Hence they both sound way better.

Regarding AcmeBarGig, I read that the dev (Ken Mclaren) passed away just the other week :(

His amp sims were probably some of the earliest software ones that you could download for free for PC.They are pretty outdated nowadays, but I'm sure many have fond memories of messing around with them writing bad-ass riffs and songs! :metal:

    Sorry for OT!

Damn man, that sucks big time. I remember this developer, he did brilliant and innovative plugins for guitar. Damn, I even bought his HeadCase II (or something like that, the super-tweakable one). Go figure, me paying for software...
I remember he had already gone through some kind of major stroke many years ago. Sucks the same. Brilliant and nice guy.

I don't know how much better they sound but that's true. AFAIK even NeuralDsp use IRs for cabinets,

The N4 & OwnHammer combo are fantastic but latency is proving a little problematic, got any tips? I find latency way worse in S1 5.2 compared to Reaper 6 but it's still noticeable. No zero latency vectors like the new aquas offer sadly.

easy tip : OH provide regular IR too.
You can use exactly the same IR for tracking only.
They are in the "Wav" folder.
SS T1 T2 correspond to the same setting in Nebula : Solid State, Tube 1, Tube 2

That's exactly what i have done for my test files

@pikachu9 One is Nebula, the other is an IR of the SAME cab capture from OwnHammer
Nebula cabs are NOT IRs : they are non linear profiles, like Kemper

Besides what @PifPafPif says which is handy.
It turns out that the Nebula kernels computation-wise are similar to IRs. What I mean is that cab IRs are very short and Nebula cab kernels are too.
So you can lower quite a bit the internal Nebula buffer or equivalent. I don't recall exactly what it is, I played a bit with this like 8 years ago with Neb3.

Ah found out how to make a Zero Latency version of N4 and the OwnHammer 412-GTR MAR-CB MIX MSC.

    1. Load N4 select Finder, select highlight only OHC\MRC folder, close finder.
    2. Click Setups click + button New Setup.
    3. Name - N4ZL, Magic ID - N416, Description - Zero latency setup, Default Skin - don't change anything, Format - vst or vst3 which ever suits you.
    4. Bottom left corner + click to add program (OHC\MRC and all cabinets should be listed) select highlight MRC folder
    5. Bottom right corner click on tweaks\Local Tweaks tab + add tweak
    6. Add this info;- Name: ZEROLATENCY, Value: 1,
    7. + add tweak; Name: OTIMED, Value 3
    8. + add tweak; Name: AHEADLENGTH, Value: 1500
    9. Click Save.

Now load up DAW of choice it will scan new N4ZL vst. Chose this version for tracking and N4 untouched for mixing. Taken from N4 manual.

    viola.

@Xupito and so, CPU is VERY low too ... like a regular IR
Witch mean now, with @ThorntonQ post, we can play real time Nebula cabs

Next step : finding a studio to make new Nebula cabs

Nice, I guess for a modern CPU a Nebula cab lib can be low on CPU.
Problem is I don't see anymore 3rd party Nebula libs like in the v3 days. I guess Acustica cut the 3rd party devs to make more money themselves.
Or just worsen too much the conditions for them.

Does anyone know if there is there any way to further reduce latency from this "zero latency" tweaked setup in Nebula?

The AHEADLENGTH This parameter controls the look-ahead buffer utilised by compressor and dynamic programs in general. It is expressed in milliseconds. Increasing this parameter will increase latency.

So in theory reducing it from the 1500 would reduce latency further BUT, be warned the settings above are the only settings listed in the N4 manual for reducing latency. These tweaks with wrong values can seriously make N4 malfunction as stated in the manual.

Hope that helps shed some light. I've found no problems in latency in Reaper 6 and S1 5.2 using the above settings even with my USB audio interface buffer at 128
