It's actually a good song if you don't pay attention to the lyrics, which were probably made intentionally bad on purpose.

The best bit of advice I saw on a website:-

If you are reading this whilst driving? Watch out for that f..ing car in front!!!!

Actually, I could offer some advice that might help you.

Picture yourself waking up one day unable for whatever reason to make music. Now, ask yourself what do I have to show for all the effort I've put in over the years?

If that doesn't motivate you to start finishing projects, nothing will!

This is a *disastrous* advice, it's hard to overestimate how terrifyingly destructive it can be for your psyche and creativity if you take it to heart.

Mastery comes from reliable feedback. And if you avoid the negative part of it, i.e. mistakes, while learning, you're robbing yourself of improvement. And not only that! The sheer act of treating your project like the last one will lead to your activity stopped dead in its tracks. Perfectionism paralyses, that's not something new.

What might be new tho, is a notion that perfectionism has nothing to actually do with achieving perfection. It's about control. It's about covering up for diffidence and vulnerability. And by engaging in it the only thing you're achieving is deepening that vulnerability.

What you *have* to do is quite the opposite. You have to let go. You have to allow yourself make mistakes and look for feedback in them on how to improve. You have to even cut your losses and move on sometimes. You gotta learn to know when to do that too.
You have to *forbid* yourself or anybody else, including Stevie Dude, demanding perfection. Then and only then you'll have a chance to actually grow.

Nothing ever was perfect, and nothing ever will be. By telling yourself "It's either perfect or nothing", you're chosing *nothing*. And then bashing yourself over the head with this choice.

You *should*, of course, give it everything you got (and then some). But you gotta know how much you got. It's not about *achieving* any kind of "good" result, it's about *not slacking off*, and *purposefully* looking for ways to improvement.

And if you're systematically feeling like you'd better be doing something else now, then perhaps that's *exactly* the piece of feedback you need? Not everybody's ought to love musicmaking. Don't torture yourself.

Give your best, gambatte, we know. Not only in music, but in life. The thing is, the reason why people often times do not give their best is what should be addressed here instead of delivering those platitudes.

Beat procrastination by reading a book on how to do it :facepalm:could be my idea hehe

There's "point", and there's the actual practical effect. You're dismissing the latter in favour of a prettier ideal picture, but a prettier picture is not what's gonna actually happen.

If you fail to decrypt that simple message embed in those lines, ain't not gonna be enough feedbacks in the world gonna help you.

    Well, those line means..

"Pour everything you have into your current project that you are working on right now, because your full ability can only be measured by your work. (not what you know)"

    duh..

I think that Stevie Dude phrase , is an encouraging phrase, so that one does not give up, I don't know if it has to be so "literal". Of course, one can always improve, and it is up to each one to be self-critical, there must be a balance in the evaluation of oneself and criticism, if you criticize yourself too much, you end up throwing all your projects in the trash, and if you think that all the last what you have done is wonderful, then you will be limiting yourself.
Nowadays I consider that these types of phrases are very necessary, I see many musicians not finishing their projects, I always read them here and I feel identified.
I don't think this is *disastrous* advice at all.

If your words have to be decrypted, then you've failed as a speaker.
That's irrelevant, however, as you just repeat that terrible iZotope video, with it's points.
I get that very good and it's *exactly* what I'm warning against, because in practice, for anybody who's struggling, it will mean self-inflicted torture.
The only people who can get this advice "right" are lazy-ass bastards who have no business being in the industry. You don't expect the advice like "You gotta work to work" to be of any use to people who are already ripping their asses working.

Well, I take this phrase well and objectively, so I must be a lazy-ass bastard and surely would not have a place in the music industry, but, I think that many successful musicians have always been based on encouraging phrases. And I think that in the music industry many people prefer optimistic people to people who are looking for the bad in the good, who look for the bad in the good, are generally destructive people.

Did you really have to be told that in order to put in the effort you need to put in the effort? No, really?
    What? OK, whatever.
How is "You aren't good enough because you don't work hard enough" encouraging? *Especially* given the context of hard-working people (not you then, by your own admission?) already?
First off, you mix up positivity with usefulness. For sure people prefer more pleasant things initially, but in the end it doesn't matter what's more pleasant when only one of the two gets stuff done.
Second off, and once again, how is "You aren't good enough because you don't work hard enough" positive? *Especially* in the context of people who are already working hard (not you then)?
Third off, finally, I provide the genuine, and positive, way of actually achieving mastery without torturing oneself, instead of LaBeouf-style "motivation". That's not even "finding bad in good" as you've put it, it's debunking and providing a working alternative.

I guess that's where any semblance of discussion ends.
Oh well, I've said everything of value already, going on beyond that point would be just egomongering.
Hopefully people who needed to hear that, will.

    Yes and no.
People who have good intentions as I see Stieve have, are the kind of people who always gave me the strength to improve myself. Thanks to the fact that these people exist, I am what I am. If it were up to negative people, I don't know if I'd be a musician, maybe I'd be a doctor, a lawyer, I don't know.
I think you take very literally a phrase that, from my point of view, only has the purpose of encouraging others. Why look for the bad in it?
    I did not understand
There are several types of people, but I separate two, the self-confident and the not self-confident. This does not mean that the safe person is talented and the other is not. Hope and effort makes talent flourish, but also words of encouragement. I know many extremely talented people ruined by an environment that only said negative things to them, if those people had had another environment of positive words, they would have shined. The point is clear and simple. You have another way of seeing things, which I share in part, and if it is true, we do not live on pretty phrases, you have to work and strive. But there are people who need (besides) people who give them a phrase of encouragement. I insist, why look for the bad in a sentence? who does it hurt? I don't think it will hurt anyone. And like Stevie said, it's philosophy, you don't have to take it literally. Look, there is a phrase that I always liked that says " If you can dream it, you can get it". I feel that it is a very inspiring phrase. Now if you take it literally, what? Are you going to live dreaming sitting down without going in search of achievements? of course not.
