do u guys know fun playable brass & woodwind plugs ?

i find the orchestra ones pretty annoying with 100+gb and hardly a playable sound.
like.. im not trying to compose the titanic soundtrack im just trying to make a fire beat.


i dont need 34 slow attack variations of a sound that you dont even hear for 3 seconds when you hit the keyboard.
something smaller directlly to the point would be nice.

im looking for fun presets like you would have on a expensive keyboard.
Anybody out there feel my pain on this ?

there was another thread on a similar note. but it was some flute patch and analog subtractive synthesis suggestions of the similar sort. fast ones you can make on anything. they sounded pretty good...

this is the stuff I like using falcon for. When I'd like Kontakt quality but without the space. The factory bank has some decent starter patches. So that's around 5gb.
You have ruled out Omnisphere. So why not the DSP56300 virus? Free, small. I'd look at what I already had from that point. But there are good examples in that thread.

The challenge is reproducing the infinite variation of expressions produced by human mouth.
Creating a sound on a wind instrument is close to the way human voice works.
That's why you can recognize e.g. the saxplayer while listening to a song you've never heard before. (simplifying the truth a bit... it's actually based on the combination of his playing technique, style, the instrument and its mouthpiece.)

You should check Audio Modeling stuff that is very small in file size and can sound more realistic. It gives you better result if you get a wind controller to take advantage of its extra parameters, functions.

well we have so much detailed stuff that tries to get super realistic and give all possible outcomes, like these 200gb orchestra plugs,
but im just wondering wheres the stuff that is way less detailed but just solid, amazing sounding, like a few high end keyboard patches would.

im just baffled especially when keeping in mind that probably 99% of us just make beats or electronic music with it anyway, lets be real none of us make symphonies..

 

Well... I really love Berlin Series from Orchestral Tools! They are truly amazing!

Maybe you can try "The Orchestra" from Sonuscore. If I remember, that library is 20 GB or something like that. Sounds meh compared to Orchestral Tools or Spitfire, but maybe it's the library you're looking for.

The Korg Triton and Triton extreme vst available on the sister site could be the answer.

 

A lot of libraries that are great out there work better if the person using it has an excellent understanding of how the sampled instrument works with a real player, its range, what a player would not do and what voicings are avoided in sections. This is why so many do not sound real if that is what you want.
If you want an ok simulation that does not have to sound real get one of the keys above or as Sylenth suggested, another one of many keyboard vst's.

This is also why many guitarists can tell when a keyboard player is playing a nylon or acoustic guitar because many voicings, no guitarist would play. This is because they know the guitar - Learn the sampled instrument when played by a real player. That is the difference between a superb sample library sounding great and sounding mediocre or like shit.

Wouldn't recommend in this case, those plugins need a lot of fiddling to sound good, it's p much the same as huge orchestral libraries, just with physical modelling.

Heavyocity Forzo, Novo and Vento are what you want. There is even an essentials version of them, 2-3 Gb per library.
Those Heavyocity libraries are made for people like you who want quick results and not neccessarily traditional orchestral sounds, but because of that the articulations are heavily limited.
There are also other libraries you could use: Berlin Inspire, ProjectSAM Orchestral Essentials, Lumina, Performance Samples, Vintage Horns/Strings, they are all good for quick results but too limited for composing realistic sounding orchestral music.

Lool those huge libraries are really popular, have a lot of torrent seeds etc.
Imagine all of them being "Ah shiet I just wanted to make trap beats wtf is this" after installing them

but I understand OP's questionable complexity and scale of libraries nowadays,
SWAM may need fiddling around, and aren't an orchestral-layers stuff, but because of that, the layering by user's choice of combining multiple presets and VST instruments of SWAM definitely is fun, I'd argue also quicker than navigating through 100s of orchestra presets in most Kontakt banks,
and unlike Kontakt libraries, they offer fully functional time-limited demos upon request, so one can quickly get hands on experience

 

Well, no, they're solo instruments, but they have the advantage that with proper controllers they allow subtle nuances, difficult to get with sample libraries.

Instead, to use them as ensemble you have to record layer after layer or use DivisiMate, however it's difficult in both cases, for different reasons.

 

There are so many options you have to want your sound hard enough and it is there,POOF!.

1.You can play a sample as an instrument nowadays. You can ignore trying to recreate a virtuoso. You never will. Ha ha.
2.You can use a brass library such as Session Horns Pro in the background; where the focus is a singer and it is pretty good because you mean it that way.
3. You can play a solo instrument such as SWAM; and tweak for weeks to get a hook line.
Selecting what you want to do and doing it, within limitations, is true art.

 

Logic Sculpture is great for modeling instruments, especially ones that aren't parts in your mix foreground anyway. But it's an AU.
