I've had it installed since they released Cubase 12.:headbang: I don't have any concerns about R2R and as the above user said about Facebook and Google, we should be more worried. :)

That's interesting, cause I've installed a bunch of V.R stuff and do not have a Team V.R certificate at all. I wonder what V.R installer installed the cert in your screenshot.

I trust R2R a fair bit.. V.R mess up stuff far too often for me to trust them with that level of certificate (i.e. I'm not sure I trust them to not do something harmful... unintentionally).

The screenshot is from a forum user, I don't use V.R, they make too many mistakes.

If you are confident enough to think that the Warez you download doesn't have a virus, you asking if the R2R root Certificate is dangerous to install is astonishing.

If it's an issue of trusting if it's really from R2R, well then you should already know where to look for the "legit" versions.

Its not about if its dangerous in the first place. I worded my question poorly but I meant to ask what kind of malicious oppertunities installing a root certificate opens. So what is even possible not if its dangerous in the first place.

you should be using properly configured Firewall on your PC and your network, in which case there is no possibility of unintended access to your PC

The case with VR is not a matter of "trust". Their stuff is often timebombed, instable behaviour and lots of bugs. For me, doesn't worth, as long as i want to open my session and know everything is there and not crashed

Maybe one day R2R are raided by the authorities, hacked by the CIA or whatever - then those agencies will have in their hands access to your computer. Of course, they probably already have that... Security in the internet age is very difficult because the internet is a fundamental part of computing now for most people. The only safe way is to have a separate computer with no networking access. Then your only worry is viruses from whatever you install, but you can scan them first on the computer you use to download with so the risk is mitigated.

It's folly to assume that R2R, who nobody here knows in real life, can be trusted because they haven't done anything bad in the past (that you're aware of). What if a member of that team has a mental breakdown or some kind of ethical awakening - anything we're not aware of that will change their whole opinion - and decide to publish a list of IP addresses that are running the R2R certificate?

In truth the authorities will have no interest directly in 'small fry' individuals breaking copyright rules and stealing software, but they may be willing to pass this data on to the corporations who create the software. Also, corporations may persuade relevant authorities to investigate R2R via political influence.

We swim in murky waters, blind trust in R2R is not wise.
