Do you need to tweak Win 10/11 for music production?

"Ultimate Performance will make attempts to eliminate micro-latencies and it will force the system to use more power than required, which is why Microsoft is not enabling it on battery-powered systems.

According to Microsoft, Ultimate Performance will make the following changes to your system:

    • Hard Disk is never turned off.
    • It sets Java timer frequency to Maximum performance.
    • Wireless Adapter Settings is set to Maximum Performance.
    • Turns off sleep mode for Hard disk.
    • Hibernation is turned off.
    • It sets Processor power management to 100%.
    • The display will turn off only after 15 minutes of non-activity.
    • Quality of video playback is optimized."

My only proposal is to allow your CPU to run at maximum all the time ! Disable speed step ( frequency scaling which lowers frequency for power saving ) in the bios for Intel , for AMD i dont know .

I've seen many ppl pretending to "optimize" their win and only getting a BSOD, no internet and more
The famous "you dont need this service" ... and you need to loose several hours into "safe mode" to reactivate it

On my side, i clean every PROGRAM i dont need. And use LTSC Win 10 Pro.
    More than enough

I optimised my Windows perfectly by installing Linux.

Seriously, I wanted to share something I discovered lately when I finally looked at my CPU performance numbers. I was utterly surprised by how much less u-he plugins like Diva and ZebraHZ consume on Linux with Reaper. 3-6%! :wow: With i7-6700K. On windows... I can't remember precisely but it was quite a bit more.

    Anyway, back to windoze...

My Thinkpad laptop is running Windows 7 [don't ask... I need 7: FireWire, Midex, SCSI'n shit] and boy I had a lot of problems with DPC latency because of Nvidia VGA generally until I found the right driver, turned off speedstep, optimised power scheme, turned off a ton of useless services [this lappy only for audio only for audio only for audio... :)] and turned off everything I don't use. I install drivers once and never touch the thing EVER again once DPCL is fine tuned.

My Debian Linux on the other hand is far more up to date, but still it's always better for the sanity sake to be one version behind with everything, anything! ;) So I'm on Debian 10... Like Windows 10?

So I can't understand people who install W11 now that W10 is finally alright [when you optimise it as per RME, Focusrite, Presonus and other's advices] to use for music. Sado-maso much?

Sorry for a bit OT chaps... I had to "relieve" myself.
