I recall a documentary about Elton called Tantrums and Tiaras, he was angry at a woman waving at him while playing tennis, the whole documentary is here, well worth a watch. But he's a great artiste, one of the very best.

 

I saw this 3 piece Hendricks cover band once who's guitarist use to storm off the stage when the drummer or bass player played a not that wasn't on the record.

 

It wasn't their fault you know, the monitor engineer had set their autotune in the wrong key.

 

elton john =?.. never insult your mixer in a live show.. specially if you are the "product"...

 

Doing live sound is an unforgiving master, 99.9% of the audience never notices or thinks about what it takes to create the soundscape, the years of experience and professionalism that brought you to the craft a large arena to tune, they only hear the mistake, the squeal that for (hopefully) but for a moment sequed from the intended performance.

I feel badly for the monitor person in the case of Sir Elton publicly berating them in that video. They were probably cut loose after the show. He could have waited until the song was over and just asked for the adjustment. It's not as if he can actually sing any more, and he knows it. He was just projecting his angst on the crew. Dick move if you ask me.

 

Elton John's nervous breakdown destroys his own image and I don't understand why an experienced showman like him makes these mistakes. In a concert, unexpected events are part of the show, a wise person always knows how to accept the unexpected, and if possible find a solution. When on stage, every moment of difficulty brilliantly resolved makes the artist a hero and the show a guaranteed success
