why have the vsts in two or more different folders?
and why rename them? I have never renamed a plugin....rename it so? serum 1, serum 2, serum 3?
I would like to understand your logistics!

There may be a plug in that I use for example in mixing stage, at the same time is an effect and at the same time it's in my favourites, so I have 3 folders - mixing, fx and favourites and I would like to find that vst in those 3 folders
Imagine I find a new reverb that sounds to me (for example) like sea waves - I can rename the vst like reverb-sea waves - that will tell much more info than reverb3-01 or whatever the original name is

I'm using Ableton, it handles my cues very well, I'm currently trying Bitwig, the latest version, under Win10, very surprised by the excellent support of plugins, Automap from Novation and Motu drivers!

I'm sorry, I don't know these DAWS, could you please be concrete in how these facilitate the task of vst organization?

I did! - you got a list where the potential capability of various DAWS is listed and weighted. This is exactly what you were lookin for - no personal preferences.

Just accept those personal preferences, or dive in the DAW Demos and make yourself a picture of the functionalitys, thats everything i wanted to tell :)

Keep calm, focus on the Music, not on your DAW.

    Peace out

OK, I can imagine and understand that, and if the same reverb can also be called "Infinite Cosmos" and "Green Valley" you're going to have 3 renowned plugins?

in general, favourites don't need a folder, they are assigned from the DAW...for the mix I would like a folder, why not! that's a lot of folders and disk space.....
    Thanks for your explanations!

Don't worry, I'm old enough to know what I have and what I don't have to do. May be there's a little helpless girl somewhere else that needs your help...

Wouldn't it be better to have written notes with all the details, reverbs, instruments etc.? just a suggestion...

@flush with your foot that's why in my initial question I suggested creating a folder with SHORTCUTS to the vst's, My idea is not duplicating the vst's, just duplicate the shortcuts, no disck space for that. The other option of course is creating the tree vst structure inside the DAW. I was considering both options

What do you mean? in a txt? in a notebook by hand? I think is more useful when you're working in the DAW to have vsts information adapted to your workflow, type of vst or whatever you need, don't you think?

Edit: yes, I think it's a good idea to have a txt where you can write down comments to your vsts, but the organization in the daw is faster, but yes the information in the DAW will be incomplete

I recently came across the following post regarding DAWs on Instagram.

I think that it sums up the core points how to choose a DAW.

In addition to this, Cubase is pretty good at VST organization.

You should have mentioned this at the beginning, because i thought, you are just starting out.

How many Plugins do you have installed? I try to keep mine to a minimum to reduce organization.
I have something like 100, but there are half of them which came as a bundle install and i was to lazy to delete them. the 50 remaining plugins have separated by type: Synth, FX - midi plugins go with synth section. those i have subcategoriesed via company and this sorting i have improved by favourites in Ableton Live.

All DAWs which have been mentioned have all tools on board to master, mix, whatever.

Are you still in love with the Workflow of PT?
If yes something like Cubase, S1, Reaper, Sonar would work just fine.

Live is out since it follows a different idea, same with FL - step sequencing.
Logic Pro out, since macOS only.

Do you prefer working with audio?

    Are stock instruments/effects important?

Do you prefer arrangement views over sessions views (like different sections of the song?)

there are so many points, which just narrow it down.

Side question: PTs AAX only pushing, did you like it?
